"Most blatant attempt to pre-empt an award" award?

:)

ducasi
28th-May-2005, 01:37 AM
Some of these categories don't cry out for many nominations (IMNSHO). Has there been so many ****-ups? (Besides Lory's blatant pre-emption attempt. :wink: ) Do we have so much mediation? Do we need it? Aren't the most helpful posters also mediators? Don't the "tarts" and "deviants" use innuendo lots? Who actually remembers profiles to nominate any? Also, a prize for worst grammar would have a lot more competition than worst spelling. :rolleyes:

How about some categories that match up to dancing? Things like style, technique, musical interpretation??

Style could simply be writing style, or more generally, just style... Not sure what technique would be, unless you count creative use of vB code tags. :waycool:

For best musical interpretation, it could be for posts to the DJ booth, or for those long lists of themed song names in chit-chat.

Some more ideas – how about awards for best (external) linkage, most interesting poster, best use of smilies, best forum name?

Just my thoughts... Oops, time I was in bed though... :nice:

Don't post who you would nominate. Just trying to think up some categories to get feedback on (that are not a carbon copy of last years)...
The titles of the cattegories and what they actually mean is up for debate as well: eg if you think there is a better way of saying "Biggest Deviant", say so :D

Biggest deviant - Who drags threads off on a tangent most often or/and to the greatest degree.

Most creative spelling - Especially when the word being attempted to spell is replaced with a new word that actually fits the sentence quite well. In the words of Indego: "I do not think that word means what you think it means."
{I'd rather there not be a "Worst Speller" - I've already won that one once :blush:}

Meteoric Forumite - Who has made the largest impact on entry into the Forum?

Forum Poll dancer - Which dancer (forumite) has created the best polls to participate in.

Most Informed - Who's knowledge and experience has transcended the pages of the Forum and into your own dancing?

Most elusive - Who have you seen pop in, say a few things that caught your eye, then vanish again?

Forum 'Phone a Friend' - Who's head is stuffed with useless trivia and knowledge that you would have on a "phone a friend" list?

Forum Ambassador/Missionary - Who's posts and attitude would you send into the wilderness to convert the uninitiated and bring them into the Forum? Who has done the most to promote and entice people onto the forum?

Forum Clown - the most humerous poster and/or the one who makes light of everything when things get too serious.

Biggest Gaffe - Not necessarily forum related, but must be dance related and involve a forumite. (With examples)

Forum Obmisman - Forumite that is best at keeping the peace, calming things down and cooling heated arguments.

Spurtle award - Forumite who sturs it up and causes friction/debate that livens up the forum.

Best Thread - Which thread made you laugh until tears rolled down your cheeks or illuminated you to hidden secrets or let you know that you were not alone in your private anxieties or provoked you to think about somthing that wouldn't have crossed you mind...

Best avatar - prettiest picture or most representative of that person, or one that makes you smile every time you see it.

Best tag line - the quote at the bottom of registered user's post: Who's do you like best?

Best Profile - the info written in everyone's "Member Profile"

Forum King & Forum Queen - Belles of the ball to be crowned and have the first dance together. I recon that they should be nominated as a couple: which forumites would you like to see dancing together?

{Just a reminder: don't post who you would nominate for any of these}

In the words of Indego: "I do not think that word means what you think it means."

Because I'm a pedant at the best of times but ESPECIALLY about films, my apologies to Gadget for the following two Points of Princess Bride Accuracy :flower:

It's INIGO. Proper Spanish name, y'know, as in Inigo Jones (the theatre architect). Only it's Inigo Montoya.

XHello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

:blush: Sorry, but it had to be done.

And the quote is: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

We now return you to your usual Forum Discussion Service...

Can't ESG write some bit of code to trawl through every post in the last year and calculate "most quoted / referenced poster" ? At least there will be one category that will be above suspicion of vote rigging / blatant favouritism :wink:

Maybe we can get the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to oversee the process of collecting votes in the other categories? :whistle:

I think a lot of people found the 'Best first 10 posts' award difficult to nominate for - maybe it should be changed to 'best newcomer' and has to be awarded to someone who has joined the forum since the last BFG?

Also the 'biggest ****-up' was tricky - anything that means going back through pages and pages of threads isn't going to inspire people.

There are definitely a few from this thread that could be worthy additions/replacements...

In the words of Inigo: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
{I'd rather there not be a "Worst Speller" - I've already won that one once :blush:}

{Just a reminder: don't post who you would nominate for any of these}

{Bad form to quote one's self, but since it keeps being referred to, thought I would re-post it...}
<< snip the rest >>

I'd say go for it.

Not that anyone will take it seriously :whistle: (pinched that from Drathzel actually)

Please write out 100 times: ombudsman

Who has the thankless task of gathering the votes and announcing the winners?

- Biggest deviant - maybe call it "Biggest Hi-jacker"?
- Most creative spelling - maybe call it "Most appropriate spelling"?
- Most Informed - "Dancing Guru"?
- Forum Ambassador/Missionary - Conversely, could also have "Forum Ogre" :)
- Forum Obmisman - I'm still assuming this is "ombudsman"? But maybe "Diplomat" is better to avoid any confusion...
- Spurtle award - Could name that the Andy McGregor Award...

Gadget getting in some extra candidate posts for the creative spelling award I see :)

As for who is doing this. I have a php page ready to take the results and email them to someone, who will collate them (probably just as easy to do it that way cos of the freeform aspect of comments etc..). Anyone can collate them but Franck will do the announcing and the presentation at the BFG as per last year.

When does the voting commence?

Is it too late to suggest categories? - I just thought of a good one :devil:

Thread killer.... the person who has most 'last posts' on threads

Why waste dancing time with Awards? Do a lucky dip competition, it's all the rage :clap: Every couple gets the floor for 1 minute to show off their dancing skills.

The B.F.G. is now only a few weeks away....and only a few people bothered to vote and we had even fewer nominations. I expected this though - too complicated for the lot of you (except for a select few - you know who you are). But now we need votes.......and for as many catagories as you can possibly manage too....

VOTING IS ONE CLICK AWAY

go HERE (http://planetscathe.com/feedback.html) and vote

If you have sent me a PM with a vote it WILL be counted but you can vote again if you like if you feel you were not specific enough.

Kind of the end result of that, Minnie. Now you have to choose the people you want to get the awards, which were chosen from the list. :hug:

any help?!?Well, there wasn't, but I have just added the facility. You should now be able to see the rep comments you gave (at least the last 15 or so) in your User Control Panel (just below the rep you received!)

Enjoy and happy voting :D
