I was wondering how many times other dancers have been subjected to an elbow in the nose!!?? I've been got twice on two different occasions,in a period of two weeks! one with the guy i was dancing with and the second by a guy who was so busy flinging his arms around with his dance partner that he managed to get me right on the bridge of the nose! I almost passed out!!

I'm considering a seriously armoured face mask!!

Hiya Blue,

....was you elbowed at hammersmith by any chance?

Elbowed again after that?!?!? Night mare!

It happens to blokes as well.... I was once elbowed so hard - that one of my contacts fell out! Just one of those things I guess....

I hope your peekaboo is feeling better now! :nice:

I tend to ge kicked on my ankles!! I got kicked twice in one night at Camber. It was so painful that the breath got stuck in my lungs. I think high stiletto heels should be banned from the dancefloors!! And guys should look out a bit more as to where they are leading the ladies. I know ladies should look out for themselves too (which i do, so i do not bump into people head on these days). Stil i can consider myself lucky as a lady i know ended up at the A&E on saturday night from being elbowed in her eye sockets!! She was ok the next night though! Apart from having dark circles under her eyes! Dancing is adangerous sport!

I've been both the giver and receiver of such injuries, although fortunately never too bad. I got hammered in the nose a few months back at Ashtons, so bad I had to sit down for a few minutes to recover. But then, my nose is a big target

The important thing is what you do to help the injured person afterwards - always offer to escort them to sit down, be ready with offers of drinks, bandages, 999 calls, you name it. As always, show care and consideration - and an apology is also a Very Good Idea :)

Also, as an injured person, you generally need to take these things philosophically. Injuries happen, it's a contact sport, and whilst 99% of the contact is fun, 1% may be unpleasant.

Oh, and scary boots / heels are not nice, of course. Except aesthetically :)

I'm considering a seriously armoured face mask!!I've suffered an elbow to the nose on several occasions - once so hard it gave me a nosebleed and I felt my front teeth shift in the gum  :tears: My partner was utterly mortified and very apologetic - fortunately no permanent damage was caused and I have had many happy and injury-free dances with him since. Another notable occasion was while performing in a team cabaret at the Ceroc champs in 2002. I've also seen a couple of unfortunate recent examples of this (in fact, WB, I think I might know you  - either that or there's more than one unlucky lady out there)

It's a particularly nasty sort of injury to suffer because I find it makes me feel very vulnerable in a way that a bit of elbow jostling/toe trampling doesn't. There are a couple of moves which I think are potentially rather dangerous which I have seen lead to this sort of injury - and now any move which involves the lead facing away from me but travelling towards me while raising his elbow makes me flinch.

I think high stiletto heels should be banned from the dancefloors!!I'm not sure I'd go quite that far, but I have noticed a fair number of ladies who dance in heels which are too high for them to cope with.

Aww...you poor things  but well done for getting on with the dancin'! :worthy: I think I've probably wacked people unintentionally before, but not totally noticed what I was doing, oops  Got my arm kinda pulled a little last night-thankfully only temporary pain :nice:

Hope you have all healed from the injuries

I've had it happen to me a couple of times, but fortunately it hasn't been anything too serious. I've suffered far worse in my rugby playing days!

I have to say that i agree to that comment - I generally have a multitude of differing colours of blue, brown and black bruises on the tops of my feet where i've been got many times with stilletto heels! Very painful!!

Very painful!! I have been stood on and its not so nice. (I've had a horse stand on my foot - which is worse :tears: I hasten to add this was not in connection with dancing at all! ) I like dancing in heeled shoes (partly because I'm not very tall!) and once I stood on someone else. That was much worse - I felt so awful

At one venue I was stood on, then elbowed sharply in the kidneys by different dancers - neither of whom apologised - in the same dance (well half a dance - I left the dance floor mid track, something I would never do, but my partner understood). Fortuntely it wasn't at a MJ evening.

managed to get clawed in the face daning somewhere recently... did not thing much of it at the time, but have definate nice deep scratch marks in my face later that night when I got home!! and I did nothing to deserve it!!! I was being good, doing a simple return and the lady's spare hand went all stylish up at eye height!....

I've been dancing for seven years, and had never elbowed anyones nose.......until about two weeks ago when I done it to a girl (whose name escapes me) that I have danced loads of times with without mishap. then it happened again at the Dundee party with a different partner......Don't know if it was the same move i was doing at the time, but I was very embarrased on both occasions   ....and to both ladies my sincere apologies. I have been bashed on the nose before and it ain't nice. I also got whacked on the jaw by an elbow once and saw stars for the rest of the dance, while keeping a fixed smile and assuring the lady that I was fine.........

I have to agree! I got stabbed in the ankle by some women dancing in another couple. Its sooooo sore. Regular dance heels are ok but the really thin thin stilletos should be banned! :flower:

so I await meeting the amazonian female at 6'7" with huge elbows.....scarey thought actually :eek:Well, I danced with one in Dundee, (not very "amazonian", but over my height and I'm about 6'2") and we have a beginner in aberdeen who is definetly "amazonian" and about the same height - havn't bashed noses with them, and been carefull not to clunk heads with arms.

Have been smacked on the nose a few times, but more common for me seems to be catching my glasses. I have managed to elbow the lady on the nose a couple of times (not the same lady I hasten to add) - I stil don't know how or where I went wrong  wouldn't stop me feeling guilty about it though

I've had it all except the actual nosebleed I think. As I've said elsewhere, I've elbowed two guys in the face (through, I'm ashamed to say, not quite having my mind on the dance in hand) at Hammersmith, but I've also been punched in the face by my own hand, and whacked in the arm by someone doing a lift on a crowded floor. But being stood on, or crashing into people, are the most common things for me- though with the crashing, I once had a partner tell me not to apologise to the other couple as I had "right of way". I don't mind the collisions so much if it's a genuine mistake, but sometimes you get the impression that the people who crashed into you genuinely don't care about the other dancers on the floor- which is the only time I really get annoyed.

I got my first stiletto on the foot on Saturday night, it sort of grated off my foot then became stuck inside my shoe, think I was lucky with the angle of approach of the heel towards my foot or it might have been worse. Did have a split second where I expected to look down and see my foot impaled by said heel but the sensation didn't compare with impaling one's foot on a big rusty nail (which hurts more) so I knew it couldn't be too bad. I think the lady with the heel probably worried more than me. I also helped one partner punch himself on the nose.

Worst/best belter I've had was in Blackpool, got a beauty of a right hook to the cheek! (But kept dancing of course). I know I've whacked a few people too. Usually not with elbows though, I'm too short!

Ah well, c'est la vie for the dancer on the crowded dance floors n'est-ce pas? Thankfully we usually live to tell the tale!

Wierd how it was all the one night. :tears:When the Leopard Lounge closed I thought I would try Fulham Town Hall. It was very crowded. I stood on a guys foot, apologised, and danced in a different corner. He moved too, as I found out when I stood on his foot again. I apologised again and moved again. So did he, as I found out ... :tears:

I have never been back there, and sometimes wonder if he has.

I last visited Casbah years ago, and have not been back because in the crush I bumped partners nose. I do not go dancing to spoil anybody's night.

I think when people don't apologise it makes it worse!! The guy that got me right on the bridge of the nose didn't apologise - trouble was i didn't see who it was - i was too busy clutching my nose!

I do think that Fulham is possibly one of the busiest venues i've been too, one evening i was busy dancing when suddenly i became aware of something banging into my legs - i looked behind me and there was a guy on the floor! Somehow he'd managed to volley himself across the floor and landed right at the back of my feet. Fortunately the guy i was dancing with had seen it happening and grabbed me to prevent me from falling!!

But for all the possible dangers it doesn't stop me dancing!!
