Looking for a new linen basket (laundry receptacle for our American readers) - what an exciting life I lead - I found a rather nice Shaker-style maple basket at £150, yes you heard me, £150 !!! . Now my dirty laundry may be interesting but it doesn't warrant a home that exclusive.

I found the following thread on UK.d-i-y on how a recently-singled man handles the tricky subject of dirty laundry.

Question:

My wife left home, about two weeks ago and the laundry basket has stopped
working.
I put some dirty washing in about two days after she left. When I came to
put some more in two days later, the other lot was still there. It doesn't
empty itself like it used to. Any ideas?

Suggestions:

1.
Try inverting it After I did this, mine has stayed completely
empty. To pretty it up, a thin bead of sealant around the rim
helps to keep the dust and vermin out.

2.
Try using the dustbin instead. This should get emptied once a week by
your local friendly operatives, and you'll have no more problems.
Simply buy new clothes when the current ones attract adverse comments (+)
due to dirt / odour etc.

(+ esp. from Ceroc dancers. CRL)

3.
Is it plugged in?

4.
Pick up the basket, put it in your car, take round to your mum. It'll start
working again in no time

5.
Get a replacement wife (East European makes are good value at the moment),
and the problem should disappear.
