Hiya All,

We finally got around to seeing the film last night! (The last night it was on.... in the last cinema to show it in Bristol.....)

It was great! :D

It also had bit more depth then I was expecting....
.... Susan Sarandon - "...everyone needs a partner to bear witness to your life..." for example. Obvious Cliché's and grand finales avoided - the film was better for it.

RGere and JLopez portrayed as ordinary people, who many of us could relate to - eg. Their clothing looked ordinary off the shelf, rather than amazingly tailored - even in the dance competition...

The background message - dancing can be whatever you want it to be.....

Mr & Mrs Jones - re-igniting their relationship, which had hit a comfortable rut, but nevertheless a rut....
Link - extreme escapism
Paulina - all consuming passion... in need of a little perspective...
Dancing - The common language, cutting right across social classes and cultures

In short:
Dancing - a celebration of life - long may it continue in all its forms! 8)

...um.... I like the film as you can guess! :)

Best wishes
Martin

Hey cool Marty!
I just finished watching it for the first time too! Less than two hours ago... on DVD! So everything you say is really fresh in my mind.

I agree it was good (even though, for a film about ballroom dancing, they danced a lot of different types of dance when they should have done ballroom).

I agree about the Sarandon quote being quite striking too.

I still prefer the original Japanese version though. It was simply elegant. And the character equivalent to Link was much much funnier, although Tucci did do a great job as Link as well.

Anyway...
I highly recommend it. Both versions.

Hiya Debster,

Well Susan Sarandon is an oscar winner I suppose! :nice: Its nice to see some acting ability "moments of magic" in a film like this!

...Yes I've heard about the 1st film.... I'd probably look out for it next time in BlockBusters etc... (Last time was ...um... 2000 tho! )

Have a nice week end Debs!
