View Full Version : What makes a woman attractive?

Dreadful Scathe
1st-March-2005, 04:03 PM
Well, someone else e.g. a woman can do a duplicate male one, but this thread is trying to find out what is the first thing a guy looks for in a woman.

So the scenario is, you see a lone attractive woman you've never seen before at the edge of a dance floor - what do you notice ? whats the feature that stands out ? what bit of a womans anatomy do you find especially attractive ?

- dont just tick them all, just the first few you would notice! :)

edit: I was gong to add POISE as an option but forgot!

Hmm... Lets assume the fully clothed side of the dance floor scenario and we should be safe. :D

Eyes I thought of that but I felt that was covered by 'face' as I was assuming she was on the other side of the room at the time. Lets keep assuming shes at a distance so we don't get VPL, nipples and such like as suggestions ;) (er..is that sentance going to get it moved upstairs :) )

The order of choices isn't alphabetical, doesn't seem to be in any other logical sequence, and was presumably decided by DS - can we deduce anything from that about where DS's eyes are pointing?

I'm not voting, anyway, as it's all too physical - the Ceroc ladies I know are sweet, angelic, ethereal beings who waft around on clouds of spirituality, dispensing their dance favours impartially with grace and lightness of being.

Or maybe I'm just too old.

If you had read the scenario ;) .... shes standing at the edge of the dance floor, you've never seen her dance, you're looking on her as a mystical creature untouched by time, frozen like a little butterfly (aww), unsullied by the eyes of learing cerocers - its the here and now, your first opinion of her physically. I dunno much about art but i know what i like :)

It's just an opinion, but I find the most attractive ladies are not by and large the best dancers, and the best dancers are not the ladies that I find the most attractive. Of course there are honourable exceptions in both categories (before I land myself in immensely deep and hot water.)

Tsk, I wish people would read the scenario! :) Its initial attraction - shes frozen in time like an overused matrix special effect - shes not dancing or moving.

The poll misses 'the way she shouts at you for throwing dirty socks on the floor when going to bed' but it assumed a particular future I didnt think that was relevant either :)

The questions were aiming at the same premise and should be considered as one. i.e. you notice a feature you find especially attractive. Either you're just a pedant or maybe i'm just incoherant :)

You 'notice' a womans age first ? To what degree of accuracy and do you round down 5 years before you mention it ? :).

No really, it could well be the first thing someone notices - especially with the way some of the ladies at my regular Ceroc night do it. I didn't realise it had to be a "frozen in time" thing. sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry.

After some substantial self analysis, it seems to me that :

at first, I notice general shape, prefering, probably a size 10-12,

then I'll be drawn to the boobs (and cleavage!!), followed swiftly by the face,

... in particular, shape, qualities of brightness, sensuality, quality of make-up (or should that be quantity ... I prefer more natural look)

... finally the eyes - liveliness, sparkle, cheekiness, confidence.

Well, someone else e.g. a woman can do a duplicate male one, but this thread is trying to find out what is the first thing a guy looks for in a woman... This has been exhaustively researched. One study had a gizmo that tracked where men and women looked when gazing at the opposite sex. The results were displayed as a line that followed their eye movement over the body.

For both sexes the initial scan was the same, a quick look at the face, then a quick scan down and around the body to get general size and shape, then back up to the face. From there the women repeated the process, gradually filling in the detail, but spending a lot of time on the face. The guys, however, went on to paint a very pronounced bikini on the woman with their scans, paying regular short visits to the face.

Those researchers postulated that the men are checking out the woman for mating potential, and the women are checking out how interested the man is in her.

At short range it is definitely the eyes that have it. The pupils automatically dilate when we see something that interests us. Some of us, and I am one, suffer from the "love at first sight" syndrome. I see someone that attracts me, gaze into her eyes, and if her pupils are dilating too - ZAP!

I Probably put them in one of the following

Young (too young)
Middle
Old (too old)

You never mention a woman’s age

O’ one advantage of age, the range of age in woman you find attractive, increases the older you are

After a little consideration I voted for "smile" and this was partly based on an experience last night.
After doing the socialising bit, it was about time I got down to dancing, there was nobody I knew who was available, so the nearest 2 ladies to me were up for split second scrutiny. I'm sure it was the smile that made me choose the lady I did. She was in all black, (in a darkened room) so it wasn't until we got dancing, and they became unavoidable  that I was aware of her huge boobs. The smile continued through the dance, and the next one, and she was a great dancer.
Later I was recommending her to others, and one friend asked, "Do you mean the one with pony tail and glasses?" I had to check, because I hadn't noticed either!!

Later in the evening another stranger asked me to dance, I had noticed her earlier, and it was probably her cleavage that stood out, but she was wearing a low cut light coloured top.

But I think the title of the poll is misleading, based on the "someone standing at the side of the dance floor" premise. Shouldn't it be "What do you first notice?" Because what makes a woman attractive has far less to do with physical attributes as far as I'm concerned.

I'm red-blooded male: what makes a woman attractive for me is if she's female.

Age? Well, I do have "Too Old" and "Too Young" warning bells, but they can be over-ridden.

Apperance? I don't find it attractive when their belly is bigger than their boobs. Bad teeth is also a turn-off. I also dislike limbs that are just bone with skin hanging off.
My preference is for "top heavy" ladies, then hourglass, and lastly pear shaped but I wouldn't consider discounting anyone for having any particular shape. I like fairly long hair - too much gets in the way, the face has to have some very feminine features to carry off short hair well {IMHO} - again, I wouldn't discriminate on hairstyle.
I must admit that I like good complexion - some of the reason is because mine is so poor, but most is tactile
A smile is nice - I don't like people who look serious all the time or who scowl a lot.

Poise? I much rather ladies with posture rather than hunched. Gliding rather than stomping.

Attire? I know women who could wear binliners and they would look dressed in designer satin, others that could wear the latest high fashion and they look scruffy. It's about how you wear things rather than what you wear.

Smell? Smelling nice. I don't object to a little bit of sweat, but stale sweat or hair stinking of smoke is a real turn-off.

So in general, if you're female, then there is a good chance that there is some attraction there.

{Oh, and I agree - there is definetly something aluring about an expanse of shoulder and the curve between shoulder and neck... )

While spending some time looking over threads on the forum I noticed that although many posts on this thread made suggestions it was still unresolved and we never really managed to pin point what makes women attractive?

Do you really know?

Is is it just physical attraction?

The voice ?

Being lost in her eyes/ smile?

Her ability to dance?

Or that overall connection that you still can't describe?

Come on guys us women like to know

or alternatively ladies what do you feel makes us attractive.........

...

Come on guys us women like to know  I think I'll have a go at answering this unanswerable question...

As we make our way through the world we come across women we find attractive. As you don't actually know them yet it can only be about how she looks.

Maybe it's simply a physical thing - "wow, look at the size of those..." or similar.

More often for me it's because they are first, pretty, and second that they remind me of someone I already know whom I like. So it's not so much you're attracted to the random passing woman as you're attracted by the memory of someone else. Someone you feel or felt you have/had a bond with.

Of course making that bond depends on a lot. There's always two parts to that. If you excuse me for using a technical term, it's about "look and feel".

Taking "look" first. For me, beyond that I just simply prefer to look at nice-looking people, it's all in the smile and the eyes. I can be knocked out at 20 paces by the right girl's smile.

Other things like voice and other physicality are always a factor - height, shape, whatever. More often though, these are only important in a negative way. I hate some accents. (Love Irish accents though! :yum: ) I prefer girls of a certain height, and I prefer girls who are sensible enough to keep themselves at a reasonable weight.

But looks can change over time and how you feel about a particular look can also change. Which is where we get into the "feel" part.

It's all about how a girl makes me feel. If she makes me feel that I'm worth something, if she makes me feel good about myself, if she makes me feel that I can talk to her and tell her anything, if she makes me feel that I want to spend the rest of my existence with her. Then that's what really matters.

Once you've got that, I tend to find how I feel about a particular "look" will change.

And that's all there is to it. Hope this helps.

I can feel a car analogy coming on, and then a few more pins in the mattel Bangers & Mash dummy

When we're younger, we all hanker after a Ferrari, but we'll drive anything that's available.

As we get into our twenties we get the opportunity to drive a couple of real classy cars, but can't help reminiscing about the car that was a bit rough around the edges and that we shared so many adventures with.

By the time you hit your thirties, you'd still like to drive a ferrari just to say you'd done it, but owning one would be a nightmare and the additional costs that come with a ferrari would just be impractical. Instead, you'd be more than happy with a good, cheap, reliable model that always starts first time and goes forever.

:innocent:

Ok Guys,

The journey to work was long and tedious and with not much else to occupy my thoughts my mind wandered to this thread.

Is independence and strength good qualities in a woman? Is this not what men have always wanted. They complain when their partner is too clingy or too needy. However it is the same women who are independent and strong that are the single ones.

Do men really want an independent women or do they secretly want to be depended on and needed?

However it is the same women who are independent and strong that are the single ones. That's the problem - independent, feisty women typically aren't looking for relationships. :tears:

Do men really want an independent women or do they secretly want to be depended on and needed? A bit of both. I'd like to find an independent woman who can still admit that she needs me. (This works both ways of course - I'm pretty self-reliant, but I can still appreciate the support a good woman can give me.)

Now would somebody give me a hug!
