Is there a Tartan free style going on this friday (21/1/2005) at Ashtons

Nothing on web site but someone suggested there is and could I give them a lift ?

An e-mail mentions it but one part says it finishes at 12 the other 1.30am but nothing mentioned on web site

Hi :) it looks like a 1.30AM finish....I just got an email from ceroclondon saying this:
Start off at Cricklewood with Ashton's Friday Night Hint of Tartan Freestyle,
where you can dance with our Scottish visitors until 1.30 am. Dress code: Hint
of Tartan). Stroll over to Hammersmith Town Hall on Saturday to dance and dine
on pizza cooked in the venue (only £3 for a delicious 12" very thin crust) until
12.30 and on Sunday take afternoon tea by the Thames whilst dancing on HMS
President. A London weekend break made for Cerocers!

Means an overnight 12 hour trip on the Megabus on Thursday night. And a 12 hour journey back up on Sunday day. And it was a complete snap decision. I probably can't afford it. But I'm coming anyhow :D

Is ashton's near tube/rail station???

It's right around the corner from Cricklewood railway station,

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=523799&Y=185885&A=Y&Z=1

Think Cricklewood is on Thameslink line, but the line is out of action at Kings Cross so you can't get there directly from South London, so from Kennington probably best to get the tube to KX and then train from St Pancras.

Hope this helps.

Yep - see here (http://www.ceroclondon.com/serv01.htm) for directions. It's not the nicest of areas, though, I wouldn't walk around by myself at night - mainline station is just around the corner, however.

Alas, can't make Ashtons, hopefully will be one of the Boyz at Nortel on Sat however...

Hi Em

Long time no hear!

The HMS P tea dance was cancelled last Sunday, because of extremely low tides on the River Thames and moved to this Sunday, the 20th.

Regret I won't be there, or Ashtons  , as I'll be doing West Coast Swing at Ceroc Surbiton and Dance Riviera, with visiting US teacher Steve Neeren  .

Hmm.

Not at all convinced this has been authorised by the Department of Wiggling (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1827&highlight=department+wiggling)...

Serious repercussions can be expected in the event of either unauthorised wiggles...

... or wiggle investigations.

Particularly in the absence of a recently calibrated wigglometer.

From CerocLondon weekly email;

ASHTONS FRIDAY NIGHT FREESTYLE WITH 2 DJS.

Door open 7.30 pm Fun class 8.15 pm 9.00 pm Freestyle til 1.30 am

I never manage to get there much before 9.30, and it's always packed by then so I guess people do get there early.

If you don't fancy a dance with Dale then there's plenty of great ladies to dance with, Friday nights always fab.

Me

Pick me pick me

It gets going 9.00 I suppose. No problems with space usually, and it's the best quality floor I know. It feels sprung and it's smooth without being too slippy.

No idea about getting back to the station Gus , not heard any stories about that. Possibly Andreas may be using the train too so you could protect each other. Be careful about eating late night fast food that's all I will say.

Hopefully see you later

Is there an armed escort back to the train station? (its not REALLY that bad round there is it?)
Around the entrance to the train station it can be a bit deserted. Between the train station and Ashtons has not bothered me - it is hardly an isolated area, even late at night.

As an alternative there is always the bus from South Hampstead / Finchley Road or Willesden Green Underground stations.

I usually take the bus. N16 goes all the way down to Victoria. Bus stops are in lit areas, so it is reasonably safe.

:yeah: I was in full wiggling assessment mode last night :yum: and I can report back that the forum wiggles in general, meet a higher standard than average (this begs a serious question, does becoming a member of the forum, automatically improve your wiggle or does the urge to become a forumite only develop once a good wiggle is already established? )

Russel Saxby, David Franklin, El S G, Groovy dancer, Dan Hudson, LatinLover, Andreas and Silver fox were all assessed and passed with flying colours!

Special acclaims go to Andreas, Latin Lover and Dan Hudson for their eager willingness to give full on demonstrations :worthy:

LIES, ALL LIES :innocent:

What I actually said was (get it right Lory)
"I may go past 1.30 if the requests are ALL excellent danceable tracks"

Get the requests in EARLY. They will NOT be taken AFTER 11pm as I will be too busy enjoying them :D

So make them ALL good ones, then I can have a dance too

The "chillout zone" will be around 1am for about 30 minutes, but there will be a couple of faster ones in there to try to keep everyone happy. We have had more than a few comments (mainly from the unnattached) that they don't like ending with a slow/seductive track (nor do I), so be prepared for a real workout if I DO go on after 1.30.

I might even call it "The 130+ section"

I am sure that Ian (the other DJ) will have some really GREAT Latin tracks to suit most requirements.

Don't forget also, that rather than a lesson to begin the evening, we will have a FULL HOUR from 7.45, of Ballroom & Latin practice.

Get there early and there will be ample room for you to swing your stuff. There will be plenty of Latin, as much Ballroom as I can fit in, and there will be a Tango or two also.

If you cannot make it Friday, come along to Guinness on Saturday where we will have a HALF hour of Ballroom & Latin Practice before the lesson at 8.30, then freestyle to MIDNIGHT.

Again, your special requests will be "considered".

Didn't really happen for me last night - but that was a me thing.

Jive Aces played some slower numbers - I guess they have had some feed-back - but it was great to just watch a couple of R&Rs at the back doing their stuff. For me MJ doesn't cut it with faster music - it has to be a Lindy/ Swing type thing (no doubt that has been debated to death. Martin?). But I gotta get better at this MJ & ballroom thing before I venture further afield in the dance world

However, I spotted a Foxtrot (?? well, the slow, slow, quick, quick one) and a Rumba and moved backwards and forwards to these steps with a couple of supremely patient ladies.

Great turnout and the ladies, as always, far better dressed than the men.

I'm studying a couple of moves from jiveoholic site to practice at Guinness tonight.

Oh, and having read of the 'wiggling assessment' of Forumite males... do I get to do one, chaps? I mean, you ought to have a second opinion on these things...

And if it counts as a chillout song and you have it, can we have 'I've Got You Under My Skin'?
Did that get played? I don't remember it, but I must admit I wimped out at around 1.20am, slacker that I am...

ME and IAN

Oh, and Ian and I have decided it's about time we revived some of the old favourites, so THIS FRIDAY we are taking your requests in an evening of

BRING BACK THE BEST

SO, if you have an old favourite track that you enjoyed dancing to way back in the early days of CEROC, then PM me your list, or just jot it down and bring along the request.

We are playing an hour about, each, and the evening kicks off with an hour of FREESTYLE BALLROOM AND LATIN

Naturally, we will still have the CHILLOUT ZONE at around half past midnight, and if we can sweet-talk the staff, we go on to 1.30 am.

Another evening packed full of tracks to dance your blisters off.

Ian and I hope to see you there.

p.s. I WILL be playing that Mavericks track at around TEN O'CLOCK

I'll be there. Prolly in something purple and sparkly. We shall see.

I still want to hear 'Star Trekking' (hopefully Bob didn't play it on Wednesday when I wasn't there!).

And I hope that all the forumite guys there will grab me for a dance- especially the ones I haven't met yet. And the ones I've met but not danced with.

Anyone who doesn't know what I look like should enquire of Bobgadget, Foxy Lady, Silverfox, Lory, Zebra Woman (who should probably know what I look like even though we've only met once) or Dizzy, all of whom know my secret identity!

Lycra tights, not trousers. But that's just what I wear UNDER my dance clothes... and the French accent only sneaks out occasionally when I am discussing monkeys or moustaches...

THIS FRIDAY we are taking your requests in an evening of

BRING BACK THE BEST

Too who ever requested The Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar! I don't think I've ever MJ'd to this before and I can honestly say, I had a ball!

It was a great night, even managed to to combine the delights of dancing and a Sauna at the same time

Many thanks to EVERYBODY who managed to come up with SO MANY "GREAT" tracks for last Friday at Ashtons.

Ian had a whale of a time BRINGIN BACK THE BEST

It was a brilliant night, and one that will definately be repeated, but maybe when the weather cools a bit.

For those who may have missed the concept, Ian and I were taking requests of YOUR FAVOURITE tracks from when you first started with Ceroc/MJ.

Naturally this brought up a few of the newer tracks as some people had only been dancing for under 2 years,b ut some of the titles that came "out of the closet" were brilliant to be heard again.

I remember about 3 years back when Clive played Brown Sugar. It was great then, as it was last friday.

Thanks to all who gave their requests....far too many even for a long Ashtons night, but we now have enough for the next Ashtons Friday, 15th July.

See you there I hope.

I concur re Brown Sugar. It's one of my favourite Rolling Stones numbers.

I had quite a good night, but the men were a bit scarce! The main 'humph' of the evening, though, was not being able to grab a man to dance with to 'In These Shoes'. I ended up dancing to it with Dizzy, but it's just not the same when you have to be the man! Think I used my turn with Silverfox too early- dang nabbit! (he's always good to dance with to that one).

There were some classic tunes played that I have not heard in years so Thanks Bob & Ian.
I'm sorry that you had to dance with me during 'In these Shoes' PS, hopefully it wasn't that bad!!

Smart-assed responses (please tick one):

1) Tasty as I'm sure it would be, I suspect that particular slice of pie is a bit too rich for my blood.

2) Only if I can have a side order of ***e* **x with it!

3) And ruin my diet with all those upside-down calories? I think not!

4) You may think that, I couldn't possibly comment.
