Right feeling more with it now ....
I spent my weekend learning west coast swing ....
I know late starter but wow great dance .
wicked teaching from Paul and cat ,but the weekend for me belongs to Steve from New York. He gave a private lesson that can only be described as the most detailed description of the feel and reasoning behind the dance and what a start it gave Nicole and myself.
Great to see forum buddies for dances, i really liked the music over the whole weekend and i felt there was a good mix for everyone.
Live band hmmmmm good call by Franco to call them off just were to fast... had a couple of dances during there set and swiftly died after.
Sum up great fun, good dances, new friends.

Great weekend. The WCS lessons were superb. Just need to keep up the momentum with practise and learning.
Like Simonr says, Steve's private lesson gave such a fantastic solid grounding in WCS it really gave you a sound base to work from. My only regret was not being able to dance with Steve Neeren to be able to have a chance to consolidate what I had learnt :tears:
Thanks to Simon & Nicole for being such good company over the weekend, but wish I had could have danced with a lot more people that I knew were there, but the main dance hall is so big, with so many people there just isn't chance to get to see everyone!!! Oh, and big thanks to Trampy for looking after me. And an even bigger thanks to Tone for putting up with me.
This was my first Jivetime weekender and I was well impressed.

I was only there for Sunday night, I had a great time but I kept flitting between the blues/WCS room and the main room, mainly because I loved the music in the blues room, (IMO, from what I heard, the dj's there were doing a fab job :waycool: ) but it was SOO quiet in there  , sometimes only a handful of couples dancing  so I ventured over to the main room, where it was very busy, a bit too busy in fact but the atmosphere was great
It's a real shame but for some reason?????? that 'other' room just doesn't seem to work
Maybe there needs to be an 'event' of some kind, at midnight, to attract more dancers over there because I lost count of the amount of people I met in the main room, who said, if there were more people there, it would have been their preferred choice of venue.
I felt really sorry for the Dj's :flower:
I had some great dances with our birthday girl, I've never danced 'blues' with a girl before, woooooooooo, I can see why men like dancing with the Sparkly one!
A big thank you to all you others I danced with too, I don't think I had a bad dance all night!

Lory there was such an "event" on Saturday night .
It was the introduction of a live band in the main hall.
Had dancers flocking to the blues room
The live band where an excellent band but just not the right tempo for MJ IMHO.
The Blues room was certainly buzzing for an hour or two. :yeah:

Hi folks - happy new year - this is my first post of 2005.
Bognor I was there all weekend. It was the third time I had been there. My favourite of the nights was probably Sunday. The band on Saturday was OK but I think their first set was better than the second.
Unusually I enjoyed the freestyle far more than the workshops. The two times past its been the workshops I have got lots out of.
Several faces I recognised - hello and nice to meet Dangerous Curves.
I am undecided whether I will do any more large weekenders - I am not a huge fan of Camber it has to be said.

I had a great time at Bognor (I seem to enjoy it even more than Camber usually) despite being hugely post viral and thought that the lessons were the best that I can think of even having a very slight edge on Beach Boogie (the highest praise I think I could manage).
Will and Kate were great. I really loved the strictly come dancing samba routine despite being in the horrible 1st slot on Sunday.
Viktor was great as ususal. Adam (never come across him before) gave a very enjoyable latin jive class. Nelson and Karen gave fab lessons (as usual - wish I could do more of their lessons).
Real highlight for me was the West Coast swing lessons. I would really love to get to grips with this dance style and found the lessons clear and well paced with all the technical detail that I required. Really exceptional lessons. In retrospect I really should have done a private lesson.I wasn't able to get the most out of Sheepmans DJ sets because I don't have the ability to dance WCS well enough. So I am sorry to have to say that during the vast majority of the WCS sets I either went to the MJ room or went to catch a few hours much needed sleep.
The real problem for me was a) not being able to be at two lessons that I REALLY REALLY want to be at the same time and b) not having the strength to do everything. Everything that I did do I enjoyed hugely.
I missed the live band due to my habit of starting my nights dancing at these weekenders about 11:30pm (I need a few hours sleep after the end of lessons). I usually love live bands but the reports of this one seem to be that they played song after song of fast music without the regard for human stamina. R&R music was usually about 2 mins long and bands tend to extend them when playing live to about 4 mins which is way beyond my burn time at that speed. Seems like by missing them I had unwittingly made a good call.
A great weekend and much needed after having my Xmas break ruined by starting a cold on Xmas day.
Happy Dancing.

- hello and nice to meet Dangerous Curves.
Nice to meet you too Jon, and thanks again for the lovely dance
I have missed a lot of dancing recently after injuring my knee the day after Southport (glamorously lifting a huge sack of cat litter out of the car... ). I did make it to Camber and danced a little bit, only to have it flare up again almost immediately. :tears:
So far, it seems to be holding off after the Bognor spree - so fingers crossed!
My personal highlights (apart from simply being able to dance at all!!!) were Nikki and Jim from Dance Riviera's two classes ("Bump 'n Grind" and "Smooth Jive") - very nice moves, beautifully taught with such good humour and fun. I also enjoyed young Adam's "Advanced Latin" Class on Sunday - I think he must have extra muscles or ligaments in his hips! And, of course, Mikey was on top form with his "Latin Passion" and "Squeeze 'N Tease" Routines... though on reflection I probably shouldn't have translated the words of the music to the Latin Passion class for the lovely lady who asked me... It all sounded so much more poetic in Spanish!

This was my second Jive weekender. Went to Camber in Nov 05, really enjoyed it, and went to Bognor for the 1st time on this occasion. Initial impressions.
Bognor
======
Much superior accomadation, no electric meters, much better apartments, even TV, video & DVD. Did the meal deal 31 quid for meals Friday to Monday (breakfast and evenings), and the food and staff were excellent.
Cannot say much for the bar staff in the main dance hall, they were very slow, unattentive, and quite often ignored you.
Also the main dance floor was also air conditioned, so over heating was not a problem.
However, the dance floors by comparison to Camber were awful, the wood tiles used were uneven, and in the end I gave up wearing my best dance shows (suade souls, for a pair of blochs), as you kept catching the edges, god only knows what it was like for the ladies.
Enjoyed the lessons but I would ask for two changes for the future:
1) Have some agreed way for moving ladies (and occasionally men) around, everyone seemed to do it slightly differently, and this just slowed things down.
2) Make it crystal clear that most classes are aimed at people who are at intermediate level, unless they are suitable for newbies. Was quite frustrated that during the Advanced Latin class, two of the ladies I continually came round, had only started dancing at that weekend! When this happens I can see why people pair off.
Camber
======
Poor accomadation (but functional), restaurant was awful, but the main dance floor was suberb (sprung), also both of the rooms were in the same building, no need to go outside to find the other dance venue, as a result the blues room was buzzing all night, and I found that it was busy all night.
No A/C so it got very hot, unless you stood in front of the portable AC units that got brought in, but they only cooled the area in front of the stage, and you got dripped on from the overhead condensation that resulted from the light rigging overhead!
Overally I really enjoyed the weekend despite the dance floor. Enjoyed Roger Chins Slinky Jive as well as Nelson's Advanced Jive. Missed out on the WCS, so will watch the DVD and aim to go to WCS on the next weekender.
I read someone saying that Vicktor was teaching, if so when was that because I never saw his name on the timetable!
Have already booked for the Ceroc Storm, as well as Franco's Camber in May & Nov. Just need to sort out Southport!
Also a big hello to Leena (lina?) from Swindon, really enjoyed dancing with you!

I had a relaxing time at this Bognor. Did a few workshops. Loved N&N's Advanced Jive and Nelson and Karen's likewise.
There was no problem for me with the floor in the main room. It looked uneven and had black tape on the joins but it was OK, if a bit slow. What I did have a problem with in the main room was the relentless modern pop music, stomp, stomp, stomp all Saturday night without a break :tears: At least it was for the hours I was in there.
Of course I spent most of my time in the Blues room. Many people complain this room has no character. I thought it was full of characters  Who cares what the room's like once you start dancing: you should be looking at your partner, not the decorations. The floor was plastic tiles but it was OK to dance on. The music was FAB all night and it attracted a nice bunch of dancers.

Was quite frustrated that during the Advanced Latin class, two of the ladies I continually came round, had only started dancing at that weekend! When this happens I can see why people pair off. I thought the timetable said that the level of each lesson would be intermediate unless otherwise stated. And, it is a problem if beginners attend an advanced lesson but there's nothing you can do about it except hope you get moved on quickly.
Whatever you do don't fall to the temptation of fixed couples. That way lies madness and isolation.

The main room had a load of musical variation, as you were not there most of the time ,cant see how you would know that.
The blues room had too many county and music type songs and had too many up tempo music for my liking (numbers reflected that I fear) but I wasnt there most of the time so cant comment when i wasnt there

I can now revise my Forum total upward by 1 as I now know that I met msfab during the weekend.
I too hated the floor; 99% of the time it was OK but then you'd catch the sole of your shoe on the end of one of the tiles. Even the Great Camber Chipboard Dancefloor was better than that.
Was utterly bemused by the cabaret. Lots of talent, but if I want to see dancing like that I'll go to a west end musical.
Spent most of my time in the blues room and had some killer dances with partners old and new. I love that feeling when you dance with someone for the first time but there's no hesitation and no mismatch, just straight into an instinctive understanding. >sigh<
High point of the non-dance events was watching three people grimly trying to feed a £2 coin, over and over again, into an arcade machine that announced that each play was £2.
Turns out all that is needed is two-pound-coins.
Oh, and my fluorescent pink wristband that said 'Merry Christmas from Butlins'.

Bognor 2006
Not as good i remember 2005 to be.
I didnt think that much to the classes. I still dont like the pretzel and its super variations. I found it at first funny then painful to watch Joseph and Sadie classes for any longer than 15 min. I did however have fun doing Adams latin jive style class (lots of arms and lines). Wicked blue, mooncalf and I did our first double trouble class, with wb leading and mc try to follow  .
The floors in both room was not good. In the main hall floor i kept catching my shoes on the edges and the blues room, the floor was really hard on my feet.:tears: My first night started off with a load of bouncers, which DirtyD kindly once in a while didnt let me forget.
Sunday was a much better night than the other two but still not as good at Camber (in my opinion) Northants girly's birthday cake at midnight was  . Trying to hide from the nearly dead man in the blues room wasnt good:( , ended up having a dance with wittybird to escape which was fun (thank you for following, ill try learning another get out move besides the first move!).
Oh one more thing, why did the dj decide to play Jem (they) and the cant eat cant sleep song (cant remember right now who thats by) at 4am when I was putting on my shoes and the only place my feet were going to carry me was bed?
The good thing about bognor is the much nicer accommodation than you find at camber. But how much time do we spend in the chalets for that to be the winning thing?
