I was just thinking (I know ...its a strain really), when I was at Blackpool I came to the conclusion that when I get tired I make the same mistake over and over. Its not so much that my body is tired but my brain starts to switch off and I make mistakes, I wondered if any of the guys or girls get this. I now know that when I first get tired I signal for a sway and expect a catapult, I get the 2 mixed up, and the girl has to do a fancy wrist action to get into the catapult. That's my first sign......strangely enuff I don't feel tired, my body is quite capable of going on but its like my brain has decided to give up.
Does anyone get this??..if so what are the first signs?
Or should I give my brain cell a break and invest in another one or is that too dangerous??...

Oh yes, I recognize those signs.. :sorry :what:

Typically, for some reason, I will keep changing my mind at the last minute, and really confusing my partner in the process.

I reckon it comes from your mind / body going into automatic pilot, a bit like when you are driving on a familiar road, and suddenly you have to do a different move, but without any foresight / preparation and of course leading...
At this stage (after apologizing to my partner :o ), I tend to go to the bar for a can of Red Bull and then outside for a breath of fresh air... :nice: :waycool:

Unfortunately, leading involves a lot of thinking ahead to the next move and sometimes, we just do not manage it...

Cheers,

Franck.

Don't take this totally seriously... ;)

As I deteriorate through the evening, I notice these signposts.
1 - The lights start to give me a headache.
2 - No longer bother with dips or seducers.
3 - Start changing my mind at the last moment as to what the next move will be, with predictable results.
4 - Every 4th move is a yo-yo (great move for having a break)
5 - The intermediate lesson becomes Òsomething that happened earlierÓ and no longer Òsomething to practiceÓ.
6 - I start dancing solely with newcomers, so I can stick to the basic moves.
7 - Every 3rd move is a yo-yo
8 - She has decided to start leading herself.
9 - Every second move is a yo-yo.
10 - Code blue!

:D LOL :D Brilliant Stuart,

Excellent description of the process... :nice:

I particularly like (and recognize) the recurring Yoyo phenomenon :sorry

Anyone want to add more symptoms...???

How about you ladies, surely you get tired too

Signs that it's time to go home:

1 No more shirts left in rucksack
2 Towel feels like it's been used to mop tables
3 "Fine Brown Frame" is played for 3rd time
4 Money spent on mineral water exceeds entrance fee
5 Sitting out the next record seems such a brilliant idea
6 Your glazed look is interpreted by women as desire
7 You rediscover the merits of the arm-jive
8 Asking your partner's name and finding out you live with her
9 Everyone left in the room is younger than you
10 Only person left that you haven't danced with is Franck
:( :D

As I was re-reading this thead it occurred to me that no ladies had taken part. I did wonder if women do not get tired on Ceroc nights, and then I realised that as women do not have to lead (ie think ahead so much), then symptoms of tiredness might not be so obvious...
Maybe spins start to wobble a bit more... or signals go un-noticed...

On the other hand, how obvious is it to you when a man is starting to wane
Do share, we have thick skins in here.

Franck.

Franck.

I never get tired but I have noticed that towards the end of the evening, as my dinner wears off, I become very hungry and my double spins go all wobbly but a quick nibble in the corner sorts those out.

Of course, since I wrote the list all those years ago, Ceroc has cruelly gone and changed the yo-yo. Now us blokes have to, like, rotate 180 for it  . Scandalous. What move do us poor old tired out guys resort to now at 1am?

DavidB, need advice on a new default not-moving move. Surely you can't let me down on this one...

Of course, he doesn't actually move in those either. But I'm not sure you'd want to be doing those with someone who wasn't Lily!!

But there are some occasions when you might have a bit of excess energy, for example taking the edge of that second Vodka RedBull. I've found the catapult pretty good in these situations. You get to lean away from the lady twice in one move and still don't have to worry about all that footwork mumbo-jumbo. Do it twice in one song, and you have a full body aerobic work-out.

Personally when I get tired I start only wanting to dance with people I know...

(I guess thats because dancing with someone you haven't danced with before can be quite tiring concentration-wise as everyones' lead is slightly different, and learning an individual's style and compensating for it is quite hard work. Interestingly when I'm not tired thats precisely why I like dancing with new people.)

:yeah: ..................as Stuart said...................

I sometimes feel my mind just shutting down and the moves are slower and armjives and yo yo's are suddenly pretty advanced moves

Have had some absolutely awful dances at the end of some nights - the poor women wondering what on earth I'm trying to do. But then I'm wondering what I'm trying to do as well. Thankfully, most women guess what I'm trying to do and finsih the moves for me.

When I get tired I get very sluggish and 'heavy in the hand' (sounds like horse-riding!!!), and any improv. becomes more a case of shifting the weight from foot to foot and hoping it looks like something resembling a wiggle.

However, at these times I can do marvellous impressions of any large, slow pachyderms. Pregnant elephants and hippos with cholic are my best.

:

This is a dead cert for me. Time to apologise to dance partner BEFORE you do anything wrong!!!

Also dancing yourself into a deadend or cul-de-sac move with absolutely no way out is an absolute give away you are nearing your bed time

This is why once we are in the small hours, for me, the music has to be blues, and as Franck knows  I don't use up much energy on this, it also has the advantage of letting the woman have a rest, even a quick nap :what: I will break out into the occasional move, often at 1/4 or 1/8th time, or some speed which is difficult to distinguish from standing still.
So don't expect me to leap into action if Boogie Woogie Choo Choo strikes up at 4 a.m., I might be on the dancefloor, almost upright, but that's as far as it goes.
