I would prefer that this PC doesn't "remember" me as John S, and I'm quite happy to log in and out as and when I need to. So I got rid of the cookies using the info in the FAQ pages, and that worked - I was forgotten.

When I log back in with username and password, the system tells me I'm logged in, my name appears under the lists of members logged in, BUT
(a) the request to log in remains at the top of the page, and
(b) I'm not permitted to reply to any threads - another request to log in appears, and filling in the details again doesn't help.

The only way I can then initiate or reply to a thread is by ticking the "Remember Me" box, logging off the Forum and starting again, which takes me back to where I began the quest - how do I get the PC to forget me unless I choose to log in as John S?

(I have used other PCs before without this problem, so the kink may be in this PC rather than the Forum software, but any advice would be welcome.)

If its only the PC you're on that is having the problem then it must be the browsers settings. You browser may be set to not accept cookies. Solve it by downloading Firefox - the best browser ever ;) (http://www.mozilla.org/)...or just change your settings :)

I have installed bit defender anti-virus and firewall. When I log into this forum I get a barrage of warnings about IE sending cookies to many destinations.

just some of which were:

I installed and ran spybot to remove spyware, thinking that was the cause, but even after doing this I am getting very slow response, and most of those cookie request are still happening.

Franck, anybody, is this something that comes with vbulletin, or is there another problem?
