In order to answer your above question I would have to have read a post by Gadget pre:

14th October 2002 1056pm

You fancy trawling through all his old posts to find one pre that date to satisfy your curiosity? Or I guess Gadget might just remember

However AFAIK there's no point looking for older posts as I believe one's signature is always the same everywhere on the forum. (And it's possible that Gadget didn't need to make the post at the top of the thread as he could have looked at another one of his posts.)

But it was 2002 and maybe the forum didn't work the same back then...?

Edit: I take it all back - one's signature isn't the same everywhere on every post (I thought it was).

Edit again: I'm doubly confused - I just changed my signature and it retrospectively changed on some posts from months ago. But some other older posts of mine (and a couple of other folk I looked at) still have no signature.

Ah, I missed the date on Gadget's post as all the rest of the posts were contemporary...

Though if you look back at some old posts from Gadget before that time (e.g. you might like this post (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3924&postcount=4),) you'll notice it has the same signature as his posts now – when you change signature, all your posts that have a signature change at the same time.

Edit: I take it all back - one's signature isn't the same everywhere on every post (I thought it was). Is it – the only variation is whether the post includes a signature or not. If you are not a silver member, you don't have the option to include a signature, which means that posts before becoming silver for a silver member won't have a signature, while pretty much all the newer ones will.

Except this one, as I've turned off my signature for this post!

Except this one, as I've turned off my signature for this post!I'm not sure it's that simple - I let my "silverness" lapse for a while last year, and posts I made then still show my current signature, as do some, but not all, really old posts from before there was such a thing as Silver membership (like Gadget's 1st post here).

Still

OK, it's not that simple, but on each post in the database there is a boolean field which says whether to include the poster's signature or not. Whether you see a signature is based on this flag. What causes this flag to be set may vary over time... Either way, old signatures are not recorded, so you'll only ever see the latest version.

(Way, way back signatures might have been included as part of the post, rather than as a flag, but I don't see any evidence of this.)

Sorry to have caused so much consternation resurrecting this thread:rofl:

yea - 2002 ?? (and I still don't get it  )
BTW the old signatures {Can't spell that, hence "Syg"} were...

"There are no stupid questions; just stupid people"
and
"5tyle over substance"
and
"Yeild unto tempatation - it may not come your way again!"

And the reason for the post was that I couldn't be bothered looking up another post of mine and I was playing with fonts, sizes and colours at the time.

Btw my very first post was/is here (http://www.cerocscotland.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3877#post3877) on 10th-October-2002, 03:29 PM...

{Just discovered this forum recently, so expect me to push my nose in now & again}

I was totally new to forums of any sort - rather amusing to see my confusion at a thread split:rofl: (over when I was going to be in London and whether Boomer was going to be there or Aberdeen...). Of course I am never sidetracked on threads now.:innocent:
