View Full Version : Where have you danced? (More unusual places)

Was practising a new move in the park on Sunday evening (a dance move! behave!) and it started me thinking about other places people have danced - aside from a dancefloor, class or at home. My regular dance partner and I have also practiced on a beach (not good for spinning though!), and in a forest. I don't nessecarily mean long periods of dancing - I mean those impulsive moments too.

On Fri night we are going on a 'Steam & Jazz' evening and will be travelling by steam train to where a jazz band will be playing at a station - so plan to do some dancing on the platform beside the steam engine.

Anyone else danced in unusual or interesting places?

Was at a ceilidh and did an impromptu jive dance - drew some attention - and recruited about 1/2 dozen new dancers who are still regulars  Not as good as yours though!

My local Waitrose! :what:

I met a regular from my local dance venue, (Jeff, red braces, black and white shoes and flamboyant style, I'm sure some of you must know him) he spotted me down one of the isles and grabbed me for a few moves! :really:

It certainly caused a few smiles! :nice:

There's me trying to dance with Marc, tins of beans in my hands and elbows clasping huge wads of of plastic bags for recycling (which, for some reason, seems to really embarrass him) ... And he's the one freewheeling it with the trolley down the aisles!!

I quickstepped the entire length of our University campus in my second year (at about 3am).
Ceroced in Kingston town centre (SW London), randomly joining in with a group of buskers.
Tangoed in Royal Victoria Park, Bath - impromptu with my dancing partner, and a random guy came up and started playing a Tango on his guitarre for us to dance to!
And Vienese Waltzed the length of the dock in Juno, Alaska (which made me very dizzy and got me more than a few funny looks!)

Hey, this thread is fun! Come on guys, what other wierd places have you danced in???!
I'm all curious now!!!

Any particular part of Europe? Can't actually remember exactly where we were at that point. Travelling from Italy to France.

Also danced in a remote West African village to just drums - though it certainly wasn't MJ! The women just got to shuffle round - but the men got to do fancy spinning stuff.

Sorry Pammie but I did give you positive rep for that line, for making me laugh! :D

:what: actually, it was from behind the safety of glass so I couldn't even hear the clap.... maybe it was one of those fake ones. You know where there isn't really a clap at all, just hands touching lightly, with someone going "Yeahhhhh, Suckers!!!!" under their breath :tears:

Oh so many options, but one of the most memorable was in the Kangaroo Bar in St. Anton, wearing ski boots. We weren't dancing on the tables that time.

One of my best memories of others dancing was Andy and Rena, dancing IN the sea at the very first Beach Boogie, if I'm organised, maybe I'll get the video out for display at this years BB. Also Andy and Rena dancing (including aerials) in roller blades :what:

Hey, that's happened to me too - and the management in the bar in Gran Canaria kept supplying me and my friend Emma with free cocktails! I think the phrase was:
"you dance, we bring you drinks"
- fine by us

You and Adam looked fantastic doing some of those very naughty moves from the URBAN METRO routine ... pity we didn't have the camera capturing the moment for posterity ..

A couple of years ago, I was stood on a platform at High Street Kensington tube station, with a chum, discussing a move from the intermediate class the night before. As I talked about it I started to physically go through the motions, as one does. A lady on the opposite platform then called across the tracks "I know that one" and proceeded to dance the follower's part. We then got to remote dance another couple of moves, before a tube train turned up and interrupted us, by which time we were a) laughing our heads off and b) attracting some very odd looks from bystanders! I never did find out who she was.

New Years Eve in Bowen (my small home town in north Queensland) my partner and I had a bit of a boogie. When we looked up we saw that everyone else had stopped dancing, and the guy at the bar wouldn't let me pay for our drinks after that :nice:

Why thank you nicely ma'am

Aren't Irish trains wider than English ones? Plenty of room for dancing in the aisles then!

(a steam train) but a jazz band playing on the platform will help things along. I go to this every year but this is the first since been dancing MJ so am looking foward to it (also my regular dance partner is going to be there too!)

Just about did a couple of steps in Tesco's around 1.30am in the morning - think it must have been after a party night - in need of food to sustain me till morning. The music was good... that's the best excuse I can give!

I have always loved jiving to trad jazz bands. Perhaps I should worry, I did not consider this odd ...

In my local butcher's shop, Sept '98.....

The butcher's daughter (who was ill at home with M.E.) wanted to see the difference between Rock & Roll, Modern Jive and Salsa. So I took in my boom-blaster and a partner and we did all 3. I have enjoyed discounted meat ever since! :D

It was then that I realised what 'couple dancing' looks like to an outsider. When I watched the video tape of our dancing, I discovered that the butcher's camera was mostly focused on my torso, bottom, and legs. I mean closely focussed.

He was gutted at the end when I was dipped . He'd got the camera on my chest, but realised too late he should've gone for the low angle at the other end. You know, the 'celebrity lady getting out of a car in a short skirt' angle.

You win some....

I take it DS's guess was right and it's not the sort that take a SECOND dose of antibiotics...

Anyway, admittedly this was in my cheerleading days(and not therefore MJ), but in front of 40,000 in Murrayfield, Hampden, and a ridiculous number in Frankfurt.

Oh, and I did a striptease on a Frankfurt tram, but that story is SO for another time...
