Camber was sunny loveliness, and I have to thank the forum boys for some great dances - Mr Lizard - a dance at last (but only one! boo hoo!), Dan - fab as ever but babe you've got to cross over and dance more often as Steve's girlie! Davie H you look lovely with your nose stuck in the air, you are the *best* mincer :nice:, Trampy - *always* an experience to remember, ChrisH - wow...you are so smooooth, IainL - we meet at last!, and DavidB - what can I say? :worthy: you made my weekend (and probably my month!!).

Lory - was great to meet you, did you find Dave H in the end? And did Angelique find enough lickable men? Minnie: hardly saw you, but you were always dancing! Claire - short but so FAB you could come down (and I want to see *the brush*) And Chicklet....one word - sloth!

Blimey, is that enough lovieness? hope I didn't miss anyone out!!

(Oh, btw all the best music came from forumites too!! Peter, Dan, Steve - respect! )

Ok, I'll re-phrase that! My entire body hurts too... I have a bruised rib from being dropped (I'll get you back Collin...  ) I have a bruised knee (no idea what happened there :what: ) I have counted 7 blisters on my feet :tears: and I have been traumatised for life from sharing a challet with the 'lickable' Lory and Angelique!!! Only kidding  Thank you girls, I had a fantastic time!!

Had long kip and now remembering...........

Awesome caberets! Lily how on earth do you do that!! All I can say is: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

All the work shops were brill, but the one that really sticks out was strictly sinful - interesting to see if anyone does the 'flame' move freestyle!!

Might try it on some unsuspecting males tonight - wish me luck!

Tramp - thanks for the demo by the way, Simon is still recovering! ;)

I'm not sure if the "Now I know what it feels like to be a vet" comment went down all that well with me partner.

Been asleep most of the afternoon..............

Great weekend - Hiya Chicklet nice meeting you

Nice meeting Emma again - great lunchtime stuff :worthy:

I spent 99% of the time down stairs - couldn't handle the stuffy overcrowded upstairs  unless you sit right on top of on the the 'blowers' it was (for me that is) REALLY unbearable

Great music fellas - was really really chuffed Trampy got a 'downstairs early morning' slot BUT  didn't have the stamina to last out the night (being an OAP has it's draw backs - or was it the 6:15am finish the previous night  )

I agree with all said above including the cabaret :worthy: D & L fanatasic (as usual) - I even liked the Mandy routine, thought that was good and was well impressed with the "Nina's Showcase Crew"

Only regret was not meeting other fellow forumites such as David H - where were you ?? (nice seeing our Linda tho  sorry about not getting your blind date together  )

I am off to Torquay (Rock Botts) while most of you lot will be at Soutport :tears: (not knocking Torquay though - great hotel and good food all inclusive, can't be bad :flower: ) and some really cool dancers - such us our very own Simon

I just wanted to say a huge thankyou to some of the fantastic ladies i had the pleasure of dancing with over the weekend at camber...:flower:

I can honestly say i had some of the best dances of my life this weekend just gone.. "HUGE THANKS LADIES"

I thought the weekend had a very good atmosphere personally and as with any weekend it had it's minors hiccups, but they were surpassed by the overall excellence... well done again Franco !

I am truly looking forward now to Southport on May 14th ( www.jiveaddiction.com )and having the experience of teaching and dancing with some of the ladies from the North of the country... So , to all those attending what is going to be another great weekender for the calender, I'm sure, i will see you there and look forward to the dances...

Just back to work after a wonderful weekend at Camber, Thanks to all the ladies who did the honour of having a birl with me and only downside was not meeting many forum'ites at all. However shall be in London this weekend (I'll be the one playing statues while Linda struts her stuff) and in Southport where hopefully shall meet many more of you.

Special thanks to Emma, you were the greatest man I danced with all weekend

I had a fantastic time, amazing dances and dancing till it was daylight on Saturday and Sunday. Gorgeous weather, gorgeous dancers too.

But what did you think about the teaching, and the change in the dance floor layout? This was my fifth year at Camber, and I have to say I enjoyed one or two of the classes but was happier lying down in the sunshine for the others - they weren't high quality enough to really push the learning curve. I guess everyones' opinions about this will be based on how long you've been dancing, but I think I'll be trying Rockbottoms for more learning next time, and doing Camber just for the social.
What did everyone think of the decision to have less dance floor - I still had a cracking weekend, but I can't understand why anyone would make a decision to have less dance floor when there's so many people packed in!!

This was my first Camber (been dancing 10yrs) and had a great time. Only did 4am 5am and 4am

Its funny things like ants and woodlice in the room and those seagulls (cant they remove them from the seaside ?), especially one who I could have shot didnt take away from the fun.

Anyway the seagulls left a large message on my car

I met and chatted to so many people and not sure if any from this forum

Its odd I thought all classes etc were great but nothing to compare it with

Im sure as I become a season player of 'the weekend' Ill find things to fault

Ill also say hello to, if any are on this forum, Tony(friday girl),Angela,Tina (Cabaret partner),helga and lyn + 2 lativia girls ?, who ran out of petrol and came back to dance .

Anyone going to Southport ? :waycool:

I agree with all your points. I can't understand why the dance floor was cut down and the standard of instruction was not what it has been in the past. I had a great time socially too. However, I would be in no great rush to go back. :tears:

Apparently last year there were complaints that there was too much dance floor, and as a result not enough room to sit down. Obviously they cut back a bit too much...

Personally I would prefer a lot more fans - it was just too hot to dance.

Re the teaching - was it 'what' was taught, or the 'way' it was taught that you were not happy with?

Was fabulous to meet you too Dan, sorry Mrs H wasn't well, hope to meet her too next time!

The music in the blues room was my fav, Peters late night set was Awesome!

I have to say thanks to Trampy, I'm never going to say I CAN'T do drops anymore because he PROVED I can and I'm chuffed! woo hoo!

I loved the whole of the Cabaret, there was something for everyone!
I didn't do many workshops, it was lovely just chilling out and socialising on the grass, we made our own classes up!
But I can't really forget one of the classes, I had hand print welts imprinted on my right bum cheek! :tears:

Marty, I hope your eye is OK now?

I had the time of my life this weekend, what makes it for me is how friendly everyone is, where else can you go and get 100's of hugs, smiles and continuous laughter, completely relax and let your self go and no one bats an eyelid, I felt like a teenager (erm OK, maybe not yesterday afternoon. OUCH!)

All in all, I think it was my best Camber yet! :D

Lastly, it's so lovely to be part of the Forum, especially at event like Camber, its like meeting up with lost relatives!

Shame I didn't get to meet everyone, still theres always next time!

I totally agree with this. :yeah:
This is actually only my 2nd Camber, the 1st being back in November but I think we were all blessed with such gorgeous weather this time, it had more of a 'holiday' feel as we were able to relax in the sun in the daytime and then dance all night...
I think for the more experienced dancers that the flooring/classes would be more of an issue but I've only been dancing for a year so I guess the whole experience is still relatively new to me and I've come home feeling very flat that it's all over :tears: Roll on Southport!

I know exactly how you feel. I'm back at my desk, but I feel like I should still be dancing somewhere. I'm sure people would freak out if I started doing Dan's hiphop routine in the middle of the office!!

It sounds like everyone's off to Southport, and I'm going to Torquay. Does that mean that Torquay isn't going to be so good :( I haven't been to Rockbottoms before - well, as long as I'm dancing I'll be happy!! :)

Amazing weekend all round!! I agree with Lory - the best Camber yet. But, then, it's always the best yet ... The only thing I'm sorry about is all the people who I missed meeting.

I especially loved the cabarets - all of them excellent, and completely inspiring. It's good, also, not to have too many cabarets, I think, so we don't get too cold and seize up. (However, I do think the teachers' introductions could have been speeded up even more - wonderful though they all are ...!)

Interesting comments from Catherine_Redhead and Blue34 about the workshops not being high enough quality / a lower standard than before. Do you really think so? Personally, I didn't think this was the case at all, from those I saw. But you're probably more advanced than me. Still, I think you can usually get some good tips/styling points out of just about any workshop.

What kind of workshops would you want? What was wrong with the ones this time round? Just aimed at too low a level? Do you not think they were at the right level for the majority of dancers there? It would be interesting to hear ...

It's probably down to me craving new types of classes which are for advanced dancers - to work on musicality and style tips. I absolutely loved the hiphop and jazz classes though, it gave me a chance to work on muscle memory for just myself, which will hopefully eventually carry on helping with improvisation within partner dancing.
All in all though I agree with everyone - it was completely my favourite Camber yet. Dancing till the dawn chorus has to be done.

Actually, tequila softens the edges too. I don't usually drink and dance, but one or two shots (or more :)) is so much fun!!!

Re the teaching - was it 'what' was taught, or the 'way' it was taught that you were not happy with? Both really. In one class the instructor kept missing bits when he was running through the routine which really confused me. Then he started the whole routine at move 3, which totally confused 3/4 of the class, who thought that the routine would start at move 1. It was as if he had thrown the whole lot together at very short notice.

Lory is that you on the bottom ? Trying to work out if I danced with you ? I think I danced with Angelique ?

So I assume Southport will be like Camber just a few less people ? (1000 instead of 1600)

I was given a secret flyer not sure why they couldn't advertise on main table ?

According to web site I see Rockbottoms is sold out ?

Torquay is gonna be great   - besides the great venue (posh hotel with pool etc) - great food (breakfast + eve meal included) - lots of FREE daytime choccies + fruit PLUS the 2am FREE coffee/tea cream cakes etc.

Only about 300 peeps, so different atmosphere, you actually get to know most of your fellow dancers by the end of the weekend

Not so many workshops - but great music (Nelson & JB etc) and the dances go on to silly hours and the standard of dancing is quite high (you could even pop upstairs for a quick shower and change and to keep going)

The workshops are not so important to me, so it suits me fine AND Torquay is such a lovely place, lots to see, great beaches (and we are right by the beach) all the main shops (and it is sale time now)

It's a personal thing - if you want the workshops and are not too bothered about the accomodation - Southport

if you want comfort and more social activities etc etc - Torquay !

It is a real shame they clash - I WANT TO DO BOTH :tears:

I did the hip hop and jazz workshops last time - brilliant!

Re. feeling flat - isn't it just so sad being back at work again?? But May is looking verrry good for dancing .... And the Southport weekend is only a couple of weeks away. I also had the pleasure of dancing with a guy called Ren, he was so gentle! He seems such a quiet and unnassuming man, but a great mover, especially in the 'latino' type music, I shall certainly be seeking him out for more dancing at Southport, if this is the same fellow.

another one over, I am still recovering
big thanks to Dan with lunchtime set's, Rachel for helping take up floor on Monday (hope the scar heals up soon)

I really enjoyed the social parts of Camber, teaching the classes - awsome foursome gets better and better - the only class where we all end up in a heap on the floor at the end of the routine.
We make the routine up 3 hours before the class as this makes it more fun.

Music Really enjoyed Colin, Nelson and Steve's sets.
Agree with Rachel about teacher intro taking time, perhaps do that on the Friday and Cabaret Sunday.
I have been at every Camber event and we had the bussiest Sunday night ever this time.

the most memorable track of the weekend was a close call between Dan's "touch my tra la la" and music in one of the classes
Fraid you win Dan even a christmas or cliff richard track could not top that one - Steve is waiting for his copy methinks.

Dancing - I struggle on really crowded floors, so did not do a lot of dancing.

As Latin music is getting more popular should the swing room (which was empty at times when upstairs was heaving) be put to better use.
I am playing in a 'Latin Jive' room at MJC - would camber be better if it was Latin Jive to say 1.00 then swing blues till 6.00.

Wendy - Robbi Draco went down well, Chris Thea Gilmore got mixed reactions - took me a few hearings to like it tho

what was the most played track - I did not notice the 'fire' LAX or vam vet' pattern this time

Really? not sure I remember that bit, though it is one of Marc's specialities (and I was probably very much worse the wear for wine), so I wouldn't be surprised. I think Ren was doing the same thing ...

Lovely to see you again Chicklet!! Hope you got home alright? Are you at Aberdeen or Perth this Wed/Thurs?

Peter - no problem about the floor, I enjoyed it .... Jesus - I thought I knew what stiffness and exhaustion were all about after usual Cambers. But after doing my 'little stint' with the floor, I can really feel everything aching!! We managed to get home at 10pm last night, then up at 6am for work this morning - and still here - so I'm feeling a little sorry for myself right now!

But up to Scotland tomorrow morning - yeh!!!

(Just had the most bizarre phone call from Marc where he was talking about microwaving my knickers ... And you thought he just danced weird!!)

Hmm I always suspected he was kinky!

I wouldn't say Marc danced weird but it is very different! :)

I now treat it like a conversation, he says his bit and then I reply, we break every rule of lead and follow and it feels completely unique and brilliant! :flower: I'm not so sure it's excatly the way he intends it to be though? :what:

I really enjoyed taking part in Nigel and Nina's showcase routine. It would be good to dance it again at Southport....maybe I should start a new thread to gauge the interest :)

Rachel - good to meet you at Camber - probably see you again at Ampthill next month.....
Another excellent weekend at Camber. I can't say I found the workshops any different in quality or approach to the usual standard, though.
Many thanks to David and Lily for offering two classes in west coast swing - much missed last time round.
Not sure about the innovation of offering classes beginning at 21.00 - i for one was unable to do either the tango ar romancing the blues classes owing to the need to recover, eat and shower..

Ampthill blues, Beach Ballroom - what are they? I don't know about them. Can I possibly fit them in with everything else? Dancing is taking over, I think I may need help!!

There's a series of blues events with afternoon workshops and evening blues-oriented dances at Ampthill (Bedfordshire). The next one is on 8 May - see www.bluesdance.org.uk

Beach ballroom? Must be Beach Boogie, 18-30 July on the Isle of Wight. See www.jiumpnjive.co.uk

The next big weekender is at Southport from 14-17 May, see www.jiveaddiction.com

just a few - there are so many nowadays!

 Nope! It's NOT - It's Beach Ballroom - see all the news that is news (http://www.cerocscotland.com/Beach.htm) here.

It's only the BEST venue and party night in Scotland and it's on the 22nd and 23rd May 2004 with guest teachers Marc and Rachel.

I can get you into the golf club (physically walking in). I can even get you onto the course (walking onto it from the beach/road/fields - can you run? The green keeper is notorious  ).
But I doubt I could get you membership; the waiting list is stupid... possibly could pull a few strings to get you a game though if you're really interested.

I have played there before - a superb links course - but I had a feeling that nowadays it could be difficult to get a game unless playing with a member..
Maybe I will consider coming up for the Scottish Ceroc Championships and extending the trip for golf in the north-east...

You have a point - it could be either, or both!
In my case, though, the dance listings and newsletters I subscribe to rarely extend to Scotland. Hence on advantage of this forum for me is to keep tabs on events further afield........

My second Camber, and much more fun than November - though I only went to four classes this time.

Had my best dances downstairs, and as for upstairs on the whole the best dances were to be had on the temporary floor. Whether I danced with any forumites I do not know...

...but I was there with a bunch of friends, we had a long leisurely and very convivial meal on Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday lunchtime (beef stroganoff courtesy of yours truly) and that was great fun too.

Even went kite flying on the beach on Sunday, but the kite didn't so much fly as plop, due to the wind being very disobliging.

Don't know when I'll make another dance extravaganza - unless you count the Champs tomorrow. I will, as usual, not be competing, but I'll be on the lookout for good dances from noon till midnight!
