yippy I am!!!!!

Paid deposits before but never made it yet (stinky work!) so getting far too excited already.

BUT this seems like a good place for a plea......I need to be at Gatwick early evening on Sunday, anyone passing with room for a little one???

Alternatively, can anyone more local than I, suggest a public transport route that might take less than 4 days???

Looking at a map I'm thinking it's train to Brighton, then train north to Gatwick????

many thanks for any suggestions!

You can certainly get into the site well past 11pm.

It's not the heat outside it's the heat inside........it has been known to get warm at Camber in the main hall!

There is a different dance surface in some areas this time, so I advise bringing a selection of shoes - dance trainers may not spin so well on some of the surfaves, so I am dusting down and taking the leather soled shoes amazing how many I collected
Black, Black & White, Red & White, Yellow & White, Red & Yellow

Being a weekender virgin can I ask a serious question, when does it all kick off at the weekend. My travelling party and I get into Gatwick at 11 in the morning and expect to be at Camber by 2'ish and was wondering what there is to do in the afternoon and when all the fun and games start at night??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (only a day and a half left at work yippeeeeeeee!)

Hiya Dave (and party)

How are you getting from Gatwick to Camber? If you are hiring a car, then the quickest route (by far) is to go back up to the M25, along to the M20, down to Ashford, off at junction 10, and head towards Rye. However, this will get you to Camber probably between 1 and 2, depending on how long it takes you to get clear of the airport.

You can't get onto the site until sometime after 3pm however.

So, your options are: to head down the M23 to Brighton, and along the coast to Camber through Eastbourne and Hastings. This is mostly single track roads though, and takes forever. Which will mean that you won't get to Camber until after 3pm - especially if you pop into a nice pub for lunch on the way.

The other option is to take the quick route, and pop into Rye, which is a nice little town. Again, a nice pup lunch, and a trip to the supermarket in Rye should see you until after 3pm.

There's not a lot at Camber at all, except for the Pontins camp, and the beach.

There are a couple of warm-up classes which start at 6pm, and the dancing then starts at 9pm. However, remember that you're going to be dancing until at least 4am, 3 nights in a row. Pacing yourself is good!!

Hope this helps

So I'm coming to Glasgow instead, so that Franck can still go along to Stirling.

Sleeping tablets !! I wouldn't go on a weekender without them - they ensure at least a few hours of good quality sleep each night which I wouldn't get otherwise.

Hi ElaineB

I always take an extra pillow (the ones are Camber are a bit thin). A foot spa might also come in handy (room in case permitting)!! Think you should also take a bit more 'booze'.

WEATHER :-
Camber is right by the beach, so it is going to be sunny (which they say it is) cossies + sun cream

If it rains, do take brollies, you could have a bit of a walk back to the chalets

DANCING :-
Comfy dance shoes - and plasters just in case not comfy + lots of tea shirts and (for girlies) at least one special outfit

FOOD :-
It is all self catering - but there is a burger & fried chicken bar open late, and a grotty restaurant if you don't fancy cooking - good to bring energy bars/ crisps/biccies and bottles of water (you don't want to buy them) - well at least one that you can refill

There is water available at the bar but you will need water to refresh you during the lessons.

There is a supermarket in Rye - but if you go you will loose your parking space - AND THAT IS PRECIOUS !

PERSONAL STUFF :-
Hair dryer + GHD straightners - shampoo etc. + shower cap - towels, all sizes (if you haven't booked a posh chalet) + smellies -if you have room in the car bring your own pillow or at least pillow case (personal thingy) - sheets are provided

Tea towel and if you have room a towel to step on coming out of the shower

Toilet paper (for some chalets) or you can buy it at the Camp's shop

Other than that the obvious - booze and a little more booze, and caffine (in all forms) - alka seltza, ibrufine + anadine

SEE YOU THERE

ElaineB
22nd-April-2004, 01:00 PM
Re suggestions for essential items, thanks guys!

So, to add to list:

More booze,
Foot spa
Sleeping pills
Pillow
And cough medicine/goose grease for Tramp's wee cough!

Just seen the weather forecast, so will don my MIB look as well -

if you feel that you are one of the inflicted, I will be happy to offer the appropriate remedy!

I joke not, last year a group opposite us, spent most of Friday afternoon erecting a massive gazebo, they had fairy lights all over it and even a table and chairs! then on Saturday or Sunday afternoon, they had a fabulous Hawaiian themed BBQ, (men in grass skirts too :D )

Hiya

Just found out that the lift I thought I had from London now is leaving before I get there.

If there's anyone else going down from the London area, and is able to offer a ride to me, and a couple of bags, I'd be most appreciative.

I arrive at Kings X at 3pm, and can obviously get to anywhere that a lift is being offered from, as quickly as possible from there.

I need to be there by about 9pm, as I'm DJing in the evening, and will need time to sort myself out.

If this does fit in with anyone's travel plans, send me a PM :D

Cheers

Of course, just be grateful that you don't have to get 2 trains, the underground and a taxi to get there!!!

Hee, I remember watching that out of the window of our chalet! *rofl*

One of them (I forget the gender) was wearing yer actual coconut shells as a bra...ooh, that's gotta chafe :what:

Glad to see everyone else's packing list is as ridiculous as mine, though I've decided not to take the extra saucepans with me this time.....

I agree that the most essential thing to take is your own pillow :)

Am trying to think of some way of everyone getting together..how about tea at mine on Saturday sometime...?(bring yer own mug.....and CAKE!) Have never really succesfully managed to meet forum-y people at Camber in the eves due to the hugyness of it and the fact that everyone's dancing...but if it's nice we could lay about on the grass (I'm not wearing coconuts though!).

4ish...errrr.......if I was really together I'd make a sign with my shalley number on and stick it somewhere like just outside the dance clothes shoppy bit...(adds blu-tac and paper to packing list...jeeze the boys are just amateurs...;) ).

I'll also text the forumites I know about it and they can text those they know...we must all be connected sort of, 6 degrees and all that...come along! It'd be fab to meet more people!!

:nice:

Being interested in wildlife, I wondered what sort this could be - as you seem to suggest that the best time to view this is in the sand dunes in the wee hours, what do I look out for - do these animals make any type of noise I wonder! ;)

Thank you Sheepman Attenborough, in anticipation,

Elaine :D

What out for the lesser spotted power-kite and go-kart combination -- silent, but deadly.

What are PJs?? Haven't owned any of those since I was about 7.

Further to the packing list- what about a torch?

It proved invaluable last time when we ran out of electricity at 4am!

Catch you all later.
