I want to know your opinions on hair/hair-styles/tips in relation to dancing.

I have long heavy hair and it drives me nuts while dancing. It gets out of control. Tying it back doesn't seem to last long. Last night I lost my barrette clip from my pony tail in the first dance and couldn't even find it again.

The biggest problem is when it gets in front of my face and I can't see leads! Now some guys seem to like the wild look, but doesn't it inhibit your partners ability to follow?

And guys react differently to being swatted by hair. When it's long it's practically unavoidable. I've heard it hurts more if you are hit by a plait or pony tail. Is that a problem? (now don't scare me and say you like it to hurt...) Would you rather the free flowing look or something that isn't going to swat you?

OK getting it cut shorter would be practical, but that usually brings shrieks of horror from the guys I know.

So tell me - what do you like and/or how do you deal with it?

You can usually tell men who are used to dancing with ladies with long hair. Every time they spin her, the head subconsciously moves back by a couple of inches out of the way...

Leaving it down is the least painful for the man (and can provide some welcome ventilation!) but is almost guaranteed to get caught in the man's hands at some point. I wouldn't worry about missing a signal - a man should never assume a signal has been seen. If he wants to make sure, he should stick to leadable moves.

A plait can be deadly, but by far the worst is braids! And yes it does hurt.

A french plait is better than a simple plait, as it tends to be shorter and a bit lower down. Wearing the hair up would seem a good idea, but most men aren't used to it, and would almost certainly catch it with their hands.

A pony tail is a good compromise - it tends to keep the hair a bit more under control, and doesn't hurt.

Well Debster.....I agree with David's last comment about a pony tail. That's certainly more preferable than a plait :what: I've danced with several women who have long hair and when it's tied in a plait it can be very painful when it slaps you across the face:tears:

Mind you if a woman doesn't like her partner she can get her own back :rolleyes:

Long hair can get in the way and be painful for the woman if it gets caught in his hand. Mind you it can also look very sexy !!:devil:

No point getting it cut if you don't have to although that does happen when women start dancing a lot but then Lydia and Nina both have long hair so it doesn't interfere with their dancing !

I would disagree that women cut their hair because they start dancing a lot. I've actually grown it to get a more 'Ceroc' look.

Well, OK then.... any tips from women on how to get a pony tail to stay in? I use a small anchor pony tail inside the main pony tail sometimes. Elastic bands tend to slip out if I don't add a barrette clip over them. Lots and lots of hairspray sometimes helps. But I still haven't found a perfect solution. Well, except, not to dance so much...:yum:

I don't know Nina, but I doubt I've ever seen Lydia dance as much as I do on any Ceroc night - I'm not complaining of course... in fact not even sure it's relevant, except I have more opportunity to get messed up!:sick:
