Why not? I have no hidden agendas. I loved to dance before I ever found that it could be even better with a partner. {how long before this gets moved upstairs? :innocent:}

If music inspires you to move, then why not share that inspiration and spread a bit of joy into the world? I dance because I love to dance with people who love to dance. It's a whole "love-in" really. :D

{BTW both questions have been covered in provious threads - hunt arround and I'm sure you will find them.}

What a sad person  who has to go dancing to find a partner

Dancing SHOULD be for those who love to dance, finding a partner is one of the great advantages to our hobby, getting fit is another - but most important is the social side - I have met the nicest and greatest friends in the nearly ten years of regular dancing which I would never had met before.

Guys who go dancing ONLY to find a gal IMO usually make the worst dancing partners

I found that I loved moving to music when I did aerobics a couple of years before I started modern jive.

the first night i went along to a jive class I was instantly addicted, so it is for me because I love to dance.

I don't need to find a partner- cos I have one, so the people I meet and become friends with are a real bouns.

I find being able to dance a real confidence booster. I'm actually really shy (yes really before anyone says anything), and I've always found talking to people I don't know difficult. Dancing has really changed that for me. It's a great way to learn how to interact with other people...

I've always loved dancing - but until last year that was just moving to music at parties etc - then I saw jive and thought - I want to try that! (btw the first person I saw dancing jive was Will - so I had a great first impression of the dance!). So yes - main reason is 'I love to dance' - but - I also enjoy the social side, meeting new people and dancing with them - mainly because they enjoy dancing too, so it is a shared interest. And its really lovely watching other people begin to 'love to dance' too (that big smile on someones face as they realise they can do it!)

My honest and real answer isn't a cop out! I don't know why I love it, I Just DO!
Its like asking me, why I like gardening, ice-cream, painting or sitting in the sunshine, I just DOOO! Honest!

I like meeting new friends, I hate sitting in watching TV, I like to think its good exercise but these are just a bonus, not the 'reason' I do it! :nice: :nice:

For me now mostly social, which is why it is great to attend the week-enders, a chance to catch up with lots of friends all at once.

Comps - well I love the challenge, especially teams and the precision involved. It is also an amazing journey getting to know the other team members.

But give me a great piece of music, a great partner and you would have to big VERY big and VERY strong to keep me off the dance floor...

Oh and having now danced with Rachel - there is reason in inself, we danced to some very strange music, it was still a fab dance because she flows so well and is simply wonderful.:worthy: :worthy: :flower:

The reason I dance, is because I love it. Sorry, I know I can't have that answer, but I will anyhow.

I can make something else up if you really want.

Covered way back, but I dance because I became tired of not knowing how to do it. I’d sit listening to a piece of music, tapping my feet or nodding my head because I enjoyed the music. When I’m enjoying something, I like to express it, dancing is the best way to express that enjoyment to music…well, some of it…never tried dancing to Motorhead!

Not too fond of having questions set, then being told how to answer (this is not a major thing, just me so NO bloody arguments please!). Rather than you can’t say ‘Coz I love it’, how about – if that is your answer, what is it you love, what does dancing give you that another pastime doesn’t?

I used to do rock n'roll which I always enjoyed. Then I saw MJ and became instantly "hooked". I have to say I do genuinely dance cos I love it. Its an addiction and I find now that I start to get withdrawal symptoms on "non-dance" nights. You can imagine how I'm feeling at the moment, with another 3/4 weeks to go before I can dance again! I'm climbing the walls

So, sorry, like Trampy and Boomer, my answer is the same, I dance cos I love it! Keeping fit, socialising, meeting people and making friends, yes all these things too, but I can do those anywhere else, join a gym, singles club etc, so the real draw is the dancing itself!

The thing which really got me hooked from the first night of jive dancing ( I didnt know anything about dancing prior to that night) was that you could forget about everything else that was going on in your life ( all the not so nice stuff) .- it was a huge relief and joy and I loved it. The second best bit was the friends I made and the confidence it began to give me back in life.

I definatley did not join to meet some one, but Im very glad I went and met this chap who was alright from aberdeen

I often think how different my life would be if I had not been pursuaded to go along one night. How ever much we can get our knickers in a twist on the forum over dance issues, its still be agreat thing and I am grateful to Franck and Scott.

Mind you - children stuff, all those need to be done jobs around the house, class preparation and uni home work would be done on time....

In my experience most individuals who come along hoping to find a partner don't tend to last very long when they realise that the vast majority are there to have fun and just dance. :na:

Well....the first thing that springs to mind is that.... i love to dance!!

I started modern jive because i wanted to try a new partner dance. Never did i imagine that i would be still doing it now and having so much fun! When i started Ballroom dancing, i loved it at first but after a couple of years i became tired of the constant examinations, competitions, disagreements with my partner (who happened to be my step-sister also!) and the expense, for which i had to be very grateful to my parents.

I certainly did not start to meet a partner....it is a bonus if you do! However, if you have expectations of that sort of thing then you're more likely to be disapppointed.

I have made many good friends through dancing and that is the main reason i'm still doing it. And it does not stop there....the more you dance, the more friends you're likely to gain!
For selfish reasons, i love to dance because it makes me feel good, i can switch off from my studies and i never stop learning. The great thing about MJ is that i don't necessarily have to attend lessons to learn; freestyle creates lots of opportunities to learn something, normally from 'playing around' and feeling the music or even from a mistake! Having recently got the 'competition bug', i feel that i want to dance more! Lets hope it lasts!

So why did you start Rikki?

The boss Lady coerced me into learning to dance for something different to do at our wedding. Little did she know what a monster she was creating.
I'm totally addicted and have been accused of being obsessive about my need for dancing fixes.
Love it to bits, look forward to every trip out, would rather dance than do anything else.
Like to meet really nice people from all walks of life and to have fun.

I started dancing because I saw some people doing MJ in a local nightclub and thought...."I fancy a bit of that!!"..........so to speak:wink:

Was drunk enough at the time to say I'd go along to a class if the person who'd asked me along came to my boxing club for some training....needless to say the person in question did and so I stuck to my part of the bargain and went to Ceroc. After my first night I thought that anything that made me smile so much, all night, that would introduce me to so many fantastic people was well worth doing again.....and again....and again.

So to the folks who think you can't pull a dancer as it's shallow or not right......... Well, I now live with the person who introduced me to it all and have never looked back....( Thankyou FC:flower:  )

And as for competition... I like testing myself against so many other brilliant dancers.........

....oh, and one other thing............it's got absolutely nothing to do with my job, that before I started dancing, seemed to have a strangle hold over my entire life.....phew!!

I think it is for great those who meet through dancing, and lots have - much different to going dancing JUST to meet someone

You are one of the lucky few JB - good looking AND a natural dancer, IMO I am sure your first thoughts on going dancing wasn't to meet some one - mind you you certainly appeared to have found a lovely girl AND she too is a wonderful dancer - good on ya mate
