hi I was chatting to Nina the other week and we were wondering who from scotland is planning or thinking of going down this year as it falls within our scottish school/college holidays.

I did hear a rumour that Brady was thinking of orgainising a bus??

Heard a similar rumour in the car last night Fran!!!

I think Brady might be away to whatever colony it is he came from for a week or so, or if he's not he's just about to go so he might not be on here for a while but it would be :waycool: to present him with a list of people to fit on a bus for his return eh?!

Please can you remind me of the dates cos I'm shockingly bad at finding things on the hinternet.

Last week Brady and I discussed hiring a car, but not a bus. Some people have already made their own travel arrangements, but if there is enough people planning to go down then it may make a mini bus viable, depends who is all up for it, I know there has been a bit of interest but not more than 10 or so have actually mailed Brady yet.

I think that bill and I will make our own way down, but I wondered how many people were thinking of going. this year the event apparently co incides with Harang and BB were wondring if this may affect things. I guess they were hoping because the dates have changed this year then maybe more people can make it down. The second week also has events for dancers children if they are planning on taking them.

plus its nice to see a familar face:nice:

hi I hope you guys make it for the jiveweek (thats week 1)
I have been booked to DJ this week - I had a great time last year with long late night blues sets and plenty of mj music of all styles

the second week is mainly swing/lindy I think

For anyone who is interested, I'd suggest to log onto the jumpnjive website, from which I quote:-

Week 1 will be heavily Jive based, and will include a specialist performance course including aerials. Lindy Hop will only be offered as taster classes.

And
Week 2 will also offer Jive, but much more besides: There will be a specialist Lindy Hop program at both beginner and intermediate level. Week 2 will also include a series of Blues classes and a good dose of Hip Hop from the now "famous" Dan the Man. And if you have kids - bring them along in week 2 - it's school hols, and we'll have plenty to keep them occupied.

LL, are you going to be about the second week at all, as can't get time off work the first week and would rather do more of the blues classes anyway. Would be good to see you.

I wasnt planning on taking my children , its a shame Britain is quite renound for being an extremly un childfriendly country unlike alot of european countries. - shame really we were all kids once.

well done to Jump and Jive who have managed to cater for people who have the additional commitments of children, but who would still like to dance. Rena spoke about it a few years ago and I guess with her enthusiasim & planning there will be loads to do which will keep them amused, occupied and away from " the grown ups"

Sorry Fran & Sheena no offence intended here - just that anyone who knows me will know that I don't have a maternal bone in my body and just as some people don't like to be near cats I don't like being near children (especially not on holiday when I'm trying to relax). You probably won't understand what I've just written and I realise that I don't represent most people.

I could climb onto a soapbox here but I'll spare you that.....

Let's agree to differ. :flower:

Well maybe I wouldn't put it quite that strongly, (ask me again after the whole weekend of babysitting I "volunteered" for which is now looming  ) But last year at BB we did 2 splurges, one of which included the children, and it really wasn't a problem at all. We're even braving week 2 this year!

Agree with Sheepy. Usually, the thought of children at a grown ups 'playground' would put me off (always try and avoid child-friendly holidays), but last year at BB they integrated pretty seamlessly, and entertained us with a cabaret along with the other cabarets. I did not find it a problem due to - from my position - great organisation and activities for the younger set.

Congrats to BB team in making it work.:worthy:

whats wrong with cats ? everyone likes cats surely ? :)

children would be ok if they were more like cats - cleaning themselves, making themselves scarce, only noticable at mealtimes etc... :)

As far as I know they do the latter as they get older and occasionally do the former but maybe the parent has to hold them down and lick them clean to show how's it done and then take them to the litter box :na:

Guys,

Please be aware :-

The teaching lineup for Beach Boogie now includes:

Nigel and Nina, Andy and Rena, Amir and Kate, Kerrin and Lucy, Dan Slape, Mick and Hannah, Gary and Sara, Johnny and Becky, Dan Baines, Adam and Tas, David and Val.

But the big news is: all those teachers are now going to be packed into only 7 days. Yes that’s right, Beach Boogie is now going to be a 7 day dance holiday, running from 24th July to 31st July.

Due to new management of the site, refurbishment etc, our initial 12 day plan could not happen. But we still have a fantastic 7 days of Beach Boogie and we’re gonna keep the party full on throughout.

As we will all be departing on Saturday 31st, the Big Night (that’s the fab night with extra guests and competitions etc) will be on Friday 30th July. So if you’re up for the Big Night only, take the afternoon off to get over to the island, and kick off the weekend with a fabulous night of dancing.

If you have kids over the age of 8, we can guarantee they will have a good time too. With a special young offenders program to entertain them while you do your classes, you’ll get a break from them and they’ll have fun. And prepare to be amazed as they perform in front of us all on the last night. Their dance program will include expert tuition from the likes of Rena, Nina, Adam and Tas, Dan Baines (currently appearing in the west end show Stomp).

We’ll have dancing every night of Beach Boogie, yet they’ll all be different due to all sorts of special things happening. On the night you arrive we’ll have a few special fun and games to welcome you and to get you into the Beach Boogie party spirit. And on subsequent nights throughout the week we’ll be having a dress up theme night, pantomime, teachers cabaret, punters cabaret, Blues, and of course the competitions of the big night..

There’ll be a leisurely break in the middle of each day, when the sun will be blazing down so you can catch a few rays out on the huge grass area overlooking the sea, or you could always stroll down the steps straight from the site to the beach if a bit more privacy is what you’re after.

The food has been revamped this year with a self service system allowing you to help yourselves to the food selection before sitting down in the liveliest restaurant we have ever seen. There’ll be three courses in the evening to fuel up for the night ahead, and breakfast served until 9:30 for that leisurely start in the morning. This food package works out at £9 a day.

So the teachers are the best around, as are the DJs. We reckon we have something for all so whether you’ve been dancing 6 months or 6 years, Beach Boogie will have plenty to entertain you. The only problem with Beach Boogie is that once you get into the swing of it, you don’t want it to end. People get addicted to being surrounded by great music and fabulous party people, not to mention our snack shack where you take a break from the dancing for a midnight feast.

So your only possible questions in your head right now must be:

How much is it and how do I book?

Basic cost is £180 for the week, though as we said refurbishments are happening so one or two upgraded chalets available, and also one or two self catering apartments on offer too. There is a complete booking form on our website www.jumpnjive.co.uk

How do I find out more?

For more information on any aspect of Beach Boogie – supplements for upgrades, travel arrangements, lesson information, kids activities etc, please contact the JumpnJive team

Nina 0208 4521245 (bookings)

Nigel 07956 532721

Rena 0208 2486643 (youth activities)

Andy 01895 232239

indeed its now a week. Unfortunate, as I already booked flights :( Anyone got any suggestions about what to do in the deep south of England for the week 18th to 26th July ? Could live in Gatwick and shout at people for a week I suppose.

'oi, YOU. Call that a suitcase'

'hey bloke with the hair, get it sorted'

..is there a giant smurf theme park village or something ?

I'm sure that you'll still find lots to do in the London area that week though DS.

I guess you could drive slowly to the coast: stopping off at Hipsters and then making your way down to Greenham / Fleet and calling in at classes on the way.
