Not necessarily.

Especially if the smile is on the face of a muggle, and the actuaries can dance like the 'sters. :D :really:

Jumping to the defense of Teckkies eh Chris! Of course you are one yourself!

It seems that quite a number of advanced/good/great dancers are tekkies. Is that the case?

To name a couple that come to mind, Viktor, Will.

Can Tekkies please identify yourself? Do you have a special programming code for improving your dancing? :rofl: :devil:

I know a few others who are tekkies on here.

There was a poll a while ago about professions; I think that techies and teachers came out top... hmmm... searching only came accross a poll about which profession makes the best dancers - perhaps I'm mistaken?

Do you have a special programming code for improving your dancing?
Yes. :innocent:

Have to admit I'm one too. 10 years doing web and database software development. Plus network & server troubleshooting from time to time.

Was one, but I'm too out of date nowadays to qualify.
I reckon the lawyers are coming up behind too, I can think of 3 and 1/2 without even trying (or should that be 4 and 1/2 :wink: )

Seems many dancers are in IT,Accounts or teachers

I'm none of these

I thought we were talking about star treck

ps the above comment is without any satisical basis what so ever,but a lot of women dancers are teachers.

I am not a tekkie. I originally qualified as a microbiologist (mostly by not being tall enough to be a full-sized biologist:tears: ).

I'm now completely out of date and own/run a medical supplies business.

But I can see how the particular group of dancers on the Forum might be rich in tekkies. They fulfil the following criteria

1. Dance addicts
2. Use a computer all day(ish).

You have proposed a hypothesis as follows;

The proportion of good dancers that work in IT is greater than the proportion of people that work in IT in the general poplulation.

The last place we should be conducting that survey is on a IT medium like this Forum as it does not represent the 'general population'.

But you tekkies do need to find something that makes you sound 'normal' and have a feeling of 'belonging':devil:

Greg

Eh?? :confused:

What is half a tekkie?

The way that you answer Greg, you are still a tekkie, and you do qualify!

You can deliver the final answer in 2003, or is that 2004?

To anyone outside of IT this will mean nothing :wink: Big apologies but couldn't resist after Stuart M's post!

By the way I don't have a beard or wear sandles (sign of a tec man!)

A programmer I knew once was asked to estimate how long before his code was finished - on hearing his answer the boss said "But it only took seven days to create the world.", to which he replied "Ah, yes, but the documentation took 4 billion years."

Maybe the next time a dance contest is organised we could compete by profession. Have one heat for each profession and a grand final to see which profession is best.

And I DON'T think it will be IT professionals:devil:

Not including dance teachers who would win? I think it would be teachers because they have such long holidays to practice in. Or maybe doctors because they could slip something into the drinks of the other competitors.:wink:

So who do you think it would be and why? Come on IT guys why would it be you?

I like this thread. :)

Haven't got a clue what anybody's talking about - but I still like the thread.:wink:

Are there any dancers out there who I can talk to about modulation transfer function, hyperfocal distances, crossing the line (no, not the lines of decency), or perhaps good old-fashioned blondes, redheads and brutes?:sorry

Profession-wise I think I slipped through the net, maybe I'm in the wrong place!:rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I like this thread too, lets keep chipping in to muddy the waters, although it's all gobbledygood to me.

Maybe those tekkies will see the light, or even lights:waycool:

The original thread referred to Actuaries, who by repute chose this profession because they found Accountancy too exciting!

Tekkies are those in the "serious" professions who you would not automatically associate with having fun or having an artistic ability - actuaries, IT, lawyers, accountants. Are the Ceroc Tekkies, the wolves in sheep clothing (like the Sheepman)? Has Ceroc started a new revolution - The revenge of the Tekkies?

All types of "tekkies" are welcome, but they should give us a glimpse of their professional background and colour their reply accordingly.
For example we should expect to be theatened by the lawyers in case we breach the copyright on their moves! :mad: :mad:

Serious professions? I don't think we should allude to any of that here. Some of the best dancers are accountants (or were). Much of the very best IT activity is primarily creative in essence.

Careful, my friend...

You were pretty sharp there Steve, but I can think of others that are still studying.
And of course there are plenty of amateur lawyers on the forum!:devil:

Damn Straight!

Pros

1. Can take my Delphi code and run it on Linux using Kylix with minimal modification

2. Darn sight more user friendly than C and it's derivatives

3. Easier to install a finished product than Java

4. More Powerful than VB

5. .Net enabled

6. It's Nifty!

Cons.

1. It Can't Dance Ceroc!

.. Unless??

procedure TCeroc.Get_Down_and_Boogie(Sender: TDancer);
var
End_Of_Track: Boolean;
Moves: Integer;
begin
while not End_Of_Track do
begin
Moves := Random(20);
case Moves of
'0': Do_ManSpin;
'1': Do_Comb;
'2': Do_Accordian;
'3': Do_Octopus;
...
...
...
else
Wing_it_like_Gadget;
end;
end;
end;

erm? Perhaps Not!
