Here is clarification of the 'Porn Star' move - and also the 'Body Sweep'*

The reason for posting is because I have had a few queries and sceptical looks when I say: "this move is called Porn Star".

This is extracted (with kind permission) from the John Sweeney DVD '50 Cool Moves'. (See http://www.modernjive.com/videos-50Cool.html for further details).

Note that the music is not from the original DVD (which is a teaching DVD).

* Jive Lad has been calling Body Sweep the 'Porn Star' move by mistake.

I stumbled across a 'new' move on FB today, which was unleashed recently, by two of the top WCS dancers of our time :really:

I wonder if they'll be teaching it in one of their workshops (advanced of course  ) and if so, what will they call it?

Argh, not that one again (the "Porn Star").

There's a "facing" version of that used to be the bane of my life - I'd frequently start leading an ocho and some bloody-intermediate dancer would assume it's the start of this ochos+finish sequence, and will go into it in auto-pilot, leaving me standing there and looking like a lemon.

Fortunately, I can now easily sabotage this sequence and regain the lead. :D

Ah, but a move is called whatever whoever is doing it calls it, especially if they pay the words extra for it!* What I call a Lambada, some Australians call a Seducer, and some Kiwis call a Layback. Lots of moves have different names in different clubs or countries (Hallelujah = Rainbow; Archie Spin = Conan Spin; etc.)

I think I got the Porn Star from Donna and she called it the Porn Star, so I do.

I seem to remember that Body Sweeps was a Salsa move that Alison taught me - but I don't recall her giving it a name, so when I needed a name for the DVD I made up the name Body Sweeps.

I guess that these moves both have other names in other dance styles.

I wouldn't worry too much about the names, I would just have fun doing them with consenting adults :-)
Happy dancing,
John

I think I got the Porn Star from Donna and she called it the Porn Star, so I do.When I saw Viktor and Lydia teach this move they called it the "Slut".

I think that moves like this, taken seriously, are a little bit too sexy for a standard, social dance floor. And not quite sexy enough when done in private - so why bother? I do this move, but only when I'm following. It's an easy move for a hijack and is a comedy move when I do it.

I have never taken Ceroc Seriously. Perhaps that is why after 17 and a half years I'm still a punter and at least two of my taxi review class pupils are official Ceroc teachers. :D

When I saw Viktor and Lydia teach this move they called it the "Slut".Yup ... a 'Viktor & Lydia' move from the 2002 season? EVERYONE did it for a while .... till blokes got fed up of the unwelcome sight of ladies' thongs .... I think it was described as the 'Ladies Tease' at the time ... sure I've vid of V&L introducing it somewhere. Personally, its probably the only V&L move I'm glad has faded out of common use.

Isn't it the same one known informally as "to pull a tart" on someone? Not that I ever, of course...,

I do this move, but only when I'm following. Oh no, I wish you hadn't reminded me!

GregI think we were especially lovely when we entered the 'Old Gits" many years ago. However, our wives did hear people around them saying "those gay guys are good"

Maybe the "Big fat bald man gets a cheap thrill" move?

Can you imagine some of the pervy freaks at weekenders that would want to try that move on everyone?

Anyone teaching either of these moves should make it quite clear that they should only be done with people that you know well, and that they are NOT contact moves.

Also that after the lady has done her Ochos it is her choice what happens next - she doesn't have to do the bend and body ripple.

Yeah, yeah.

I'm sure that someone at some point may have told "The Corpse" that it isn't acceptable to grab the youngest looking woman for a dance, press her up against the stage and grind against her like a terrier on heat, but he still did it.

Actually, it's more likely that people who aren't in the classes and therefore didn't hear the recommendations, just see others do it and copy it.

This isn't a criticism of the teachers, btw (before you jump on your soap-boxes), just an observation about the dodgy end of the dance community.

They're not really ochos. They're... Cerochos, I guess...

Also, they're rubbish moves. In my technical opinion.
