Not as easy as you think Philsmove as the 100 year war actually last 116 years.

I also believe that the black box on airplanes are red to make them easier to locate

Well the Canary is an animal (birds are members of the animal kingdom) but the islands are named after dogs, not the birds...

Nah, point well and truly got (which, I presume, is why so few people have answered...) I just had to defend the 'birds not being animals' bit...I'm sure there are some out there who could back me up

I was under the impression the Canaries were named after their canyons...

Gran Canaria: the one with the huge canyon in it...

I thought the canary islands were named after dogs too, and yes birds are animals. However, the dictionary definition of animal is contradictory as it can mean : basically everything living that isn't a plant, anything that isnt a plant that isn't human, or any mammal - including humans, but not birds, fish, insects, lawyers etc... so bigdjiver is both wrong and right ;)

The Oxford Dictionary of Biology says:

"Any member of the kingdom Animalia, which comprises multicellular organisms that develop from embryos formed by the fusion of haploid eggs and sperm. Unable to manufacture their own food, they feed on other organisms or organic matter (see heterotrophic nutrition). Animals are therefore typically mobile (to search for food) and have evolved specialized sense organs for detecting changes in the environment; a nervous system coordinates information received by the sense organs and enables rapid responses to environmental stimuli."

Well, funny you should mention that but:
"Molecular systematics now includes animals in the opisthokonts, a eukaryote assemblage that also contains the fungi."

Yes I know, thats what I said pretty much, funghi notwithstanding - but there are dictionary definitions for my other two definitions, i didn't just make them up :). I think this is what you call "throwing bigdjiver a bone" :)

although with the definition "enables rapid responses to environmental stimuli" where do sloths fit in ? :)
