Daft idea I know but......
Franck ... how about picking an event (say Aberdeen Beach Party in July/Aug) and designating it as an official Ceroc Scotland Forum Event ... and EVERYONE on the forum makes their best efforts to come up for it. Get a few coaches form London, North-West, Bristol ... could be a mega event and give us all a chance to meet the real person behind the text.
Good Idea / Bad Idea??

Good Idea / Bad Idea?? Good Idea. :)
Speaking personally I'd prefer it if it was a venue further South than Aberdeen. I considered going to Aberdeen this weekend but flights from East Mids aren't frequent (eg. don't think you can fly up on Saturday) and it's a long way to drive.
Wasn't there a huge venue at Perth where there was a party last August? Would this be any good?

A very good idea, Thing would be to do would have the coaches depart from key locations. Ideally though for us Southern people a flight would be better. If enough of us went, I wonder if we could charter a plane but that would mean forking out cash up front.

Sounds great idea -how many going to Blackpool Comp, would that be suitable for meeting up there?

Sounds like a great idea. Even though it's very inconvenient for me I think this get together should be in Scotland. It is the "Ceroc Scotland Forum" after all.
Why use an existing event for this get together? There's enough people in here to make it an event in it's own right. Also, once non-Forum Cerocers know the likes of David and Lily are coming they'll buy tickets too :waycool:
If us people from way down South get enough notice we could get cheap flights on the likes of EasyJet. I've just looked up the fares, 8 people flying from Gatwick going to Edinburgh on Saturday 20th March and returning the next day would cost less than £40 each! And if you did it in the week it would be about £14 return!!! Although a coach sounds fun too. We'd need to organise an early start to make sure we got up there in time to shower, do our make-up, etc so it would mean an early start or leaving on the Friday (I'm assuming the event would be on a Saturday).
Alternatively, we could fly midweek, go to classes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, do the get together on the Saturday, and fly back Sunday. We'd have to be mad to do that - where are the classes....
Come on Franck, I know it's your Birthday so leave organising this event until tomorrow:hug:
p.s. Happy Birthday:D

Some of us from down south are planning to go to the the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen in February - check the Las Palmas thread. We thought it would be a great re-union, but could also be a forum social as well. Billco & Bex have been invited up to teach and Erick to DJ. Don't know who else yet - FrancK??
I have been in touch with a smart-looking 4-star hotel very close to the venue, and they are willing to do a discount depending on how many rooms we can book. If I can get an idea of numbers I will try and negotiate a decent rate - especially if it might be a twice or thrice yearly event. Will also check out flight prices from different airports.
However, could this be seen as history repeating itself with an invasion over the border from those damned English!:D :D
Let me know if you're interested.

Another great idea but rather worried if i have to commit a cardinal sin and refuse to dance with a certain person who keeps dressing up as a female. Then again with all the practice you have been getting andy maybe i will just mistake you for a female and always as usual say yes.
Having just returned from the Beach Ballroom Party i have to say it is a great venue to have a ceroc forum get together. Maybe as a one off we could get EMMA to do a special T shirt with the dancing duo on the front (the ones in red orange type that look great) and on the back YOUR AVATOR. Done as a big transfer on both sides it would encourage us all to go over and have a chat and introduce ourselves to each other. Since most of us that dont stop dancing and change at least two or three times at a dance party perhaps we could have a Forum Dance period announced or arranged and announced at a pre-determined time and everyone requested to put your T SHIRTS ON during that period.
Just a thought..........................

Since we're encouraging people to come from here, there and everywhere, why don't we make it really worthwhile for all those attending from far and wide. Why not make a whole weekend of it?? Friday night bop....fun (not too taxing on the brains) workshops during the Saturday and then a big HUGE party Saturday night. Since there would be 2 nights dancing, and we wouldn't want to wear anybody out, what about asking for volunteers to put on a couple of cabarets/showcases? This would give us a chance to rest our weary feet and have great entertainment to boot. I'm sure everybody will remember how fab Lily and David, and Sheena and Steve were at Perth.
I think it's a great idea whatever gets decided

Only one problem Franck - if it finishes at 2 again - I'll not have the chance to dance with everyone - so definitely a Friday night party and then maybe a 4am finish  on Saturday/Sunday?
Boomer - you're coming right? and Lily - work on Will (I need to get him here while Kylie's still singing that "Slow" thingy  )

For those of us planning to go to the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen in Feb. I have just checked out the cost of return flights for the weekend.
Depending on when/what time you want to travel, the most expensive is 0„538.48 and the cheapest is 0„513.48. Thats with Easijet from Stansted.

The amounts in words are:
Cheapest flights - thirteen pounds and forty-eight pence return
Expensive flights - thirty-eight pounds and forty-eight pence return.

Some thoughts. Now these are suggestions -
If it's viable Lily's idea of Chartering a flight out of London ? is worth looking into? If anyone agrees to take it on ( I can't) ,IHMO the deal must be you can't come if you don't pay that person up in advance (from bad experience people tend to say 'yes' ,don't pay and then screw you up at the last minute).
Or.... we have to make our own way there ourselves. I am bit loathed to Coach is a blimin long way up there.
It has to be North of the Border though as it's the Scots Forum
As soon as is practical and someone makes a decision as to when
1) The date in advance
2) Where and Hotel's etc. Perhaps those going by ourselves would consider twin share to reduce the costs?
3) Timescale I think we would be looking May/ June time, better to go North when you get the long evenings! and remember there's no Camber in mid may this year
Some ideas for thought.

With the quoted prices, there is always (unless there is a special offer on) airport taxes to be added on top.
Flying from Edinburgh to Stanstead, the taxes are 11.50 each way - almost double the cost of the actual cheap flights. I always thought that the cheapest you can fly return is about £36. Let me know if you've really found it cheaper please :D

Even so, that's really cheap. I looked at flights from Leeds or Manchester to Aberdeen and there was only one airline and the price was about £513 !!!! Thats why I say its cheaper for me to drive all way down to Stanstead, leave my car in airport car park and get a flight with you guys.

:tears: They don't generally add the taxes, until you select your flight, and move through to where you pay. Although, it does say
Fares shown on this page are one-way, excluding taxes and fees, and all times are local. When you select your flight, and proceed, you get...
OUTBOUND
airfare per adult/child 6.99 GBP
plus taxes and charges per adult/child 11.00 GBP
total per adult/child 17.99 GBP
RETURN
airfare per adult/child 6.49 GBP
plus taxes and charges per adult/child 11.50 GBP
total per adult/child 17.99 GBP
GRAND TOTAL
total for 1 adult 35.98 GBP Although, £36 for a flight up to Aberdeen isn't that bad really....
Incidentally, I couldn't find a flight from Stanstead to Aberdeen. Easyjet only appear to fly to London Luton.
Hope this helps....
Steve
PS. Yes, I missed dancing with you at Camber. Shame you couldn't make it. I've just booked my train down to London for the Bognor weekend (£45, straight from Dundee to Kings X, no airport parking, no travelling to the airport, no having to check in an hour before the flight, no waiting for baggage, no changes - I think it's a better way, even if it does take 5.5 hours (sleep time)). Will you be there? Or do I have to wait until February??

I would say for something like this, do what Franco does i.e. insist on at least a deposit up front.
Particularly where venue hire/ hotels etc. are concerned.
Incidentally if someone does co-odrinate this, would it be worth us going on our own, willing to share with somebody, thus keeping the cost of rooms down?

Ou est le Franck????
Is Franck away?
Just need to ensure that whatever date is selected that it doesn't clash with the invasion of Ceroc Scotland to my 'Braveheart' freestyle (July 6th).
Anyway ... think Franck needs to make a call as to whether its just a couple of freestyles, or a full dance weekend ... or how about getting some serious tourist things in (and some drinking:wink: )? It would be nice to structure things so that muggle partners could also enjoy it.

I was chatting with Minnie M on the way back from dancing in Portsmouth tonight. We love the idea of a Forum Get Together in Scotland. And we both feel that there's no need for workshops. What we like is dancing. We like freestyle and we like watching dancing - and a nice chinwag too with a sprinkling of gossip. We thought a Friday night dance that finishes at silly O'Clock then a nice long lie-in followed by brunch at about midday a quick look at Scotland then a nice tea at 4pm followed by dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing, etc.
Maybe we could dance 'til about silly O'Clock again, have a nice lie in and go home about lunch time on the Sunday.
It's just an idea. What do you other Forumites think?

Hi Guys. Agree with Andy on this one. we need time to chat as well as dance and the two just do not (for me anyway) go to-gether.
Happy to go with the flow and dance till whatever. Two dances and party afterwards on each night sounds appealing.
Whats the time scale for still getting cheap flights for you guys. I would have thought the earlier the better (cheaper).
Just a thought but if Franck organises the dance nights maybe one of you guys could co-ordinate with one of our guys up here and we could book hotel rooms en-masse for special discount. That way we can enjoy after party without disturbance:rofl:

Easyjet does do Gatwick from Edinburgh, which is the easiest way to get to Bognor from the Scottish Capital, but the east coast GNER train is excellent value and pretty reliable as trains go - excellent value from Dundee or further afield.
One tip I try to remember is that if you go by train you will have to change stations in London using the tube (unless you can get a good taxi across town or want to chill out in London for a bit) and this means that a rucksack is much easier to travel with than a travel-bag-on-wheels (getting them up and down the tube steps errrr - fun!).
Probably you've sussed this Seve but thought I'd mention it in case it helps anyone else.

Not gone anywhere and reading all the posts on this thread.
It seems the idea of a Great Scottish Forum Gathering is taking momentum, but rather than rush things, I'm looking at all the options.
I have already discounted the February and May Beach Ballroom Week-ends, though they will be Reunions in their own rights...
I am currently looking at a date later in the year. I also favour the idea of a 2 nights partying (Friday & Saturday).
As with all these events, the venue will be key, and I'm investigating all possibilities.
I would also be interested to get some feedback on the Perth Bells Centre, where we ran the Scottish Jivemasters party... It was a bit big last year, but with the numbers we would expect for the Forum Gathering, then maybe we'll need that size of hall?
Finally, I've been looking at the possibility of a Scottish Week-ender for a while, so that could serve as the first one...
Franck.

I'd quite like workshops and probably most of the Scottish contingent would prefer this given we're able to sightseeing things whenever we fancy and it's always a bit of a treat to get some top teachers up here.

I agree, that having workshops is a good idea, and with so many top dancers / teachers on the Forum, it would be a shame not to use all that talent :D
I suspect that Andy would rather have the option to book for just the parties / accommodation, rather than an all in one price including workshops. That way, there is less pressure on anyone, and you can go sightseeing (or have a long lie).

I'm also in favour of workshops for this weekend. Given the level of talent up there it would be almost sinful not to use it. Having no idea of the logistics I can't see the problem with a BB style format, i.e. main event packages, and workshop combos. Aside from that, workshops are also an opportuniy for the more coy dancer to relax, unwind and get into the swing of things...provided we can find them of course.

Franck. Agreed. It's nice to have the choice of whether or not you want to go to a workshop, or whether or not you just want to chill out and rest or sightsee, or whatever.
Which is what Franck normally does :D
Regarding venue. I'd love to see it at the Bell Sports Centre again. It was a bit big for this year - but hopefully, with more people, it'd be a really great event.

Seriously, I like the idea of some 'specialist' workshops like lifts and aerials, musicality, D & L's advanced jive - covering more technical stuff, improvisation etc. Just a thought.

Assuming that Franck does the same as he normally does....
Which is, you pay for what you want. If you just want to dance in the night, then that's all you pay for. If you want to do workshops, then you pay for those too.

Workshops or no workshops, I think it is best to have the choice. Though assuming numbers won't be on the scale of the larger RBs, I don't think they need to be intensively timetabled. (ie not all day back to back).
Any time from early July suits us, but I realise costs will go up in the peak holiday season.

Yes, that's what I meant. My opportunities to learn and improve over here are limited, currently only beginner classes on offer, so I love any opportunity to learn as well as dance. And therefore I would be able to dance that little bit better, with other forumites in the evening, if I had been to a workshop or two in the afternoon!
And yes, I do feel a bit like a 'toddler' still (that's referring to my level of dancing, not my dancing style!!!). But I'm still game to jump on a plane and come over and join in as best I can!

just another thought.
Boogie nights organised an event last september in in pitlochery in a hotel. the price was great and it was a really good atmosphere. several dance rooms, lovely accomodation and good food and great place to see scottish country side. the only draw back may be getting to the location? but if peopel organised things together it may be workable.
I also went to a very large central hotel in glasgow several years ago which again was september and not in the peak season.
( organised by graham and Diane) there was a very large function room and speacil rates for hotel guests. I know that line dancing event are held in this way and they cater for 100's of people. In both events it was greta to be able to nip to your room.
only a thought.

Don't try and get out of it now :).
A blue cat suit sounds er..interesting - but where would i get one - a dance shop of some kind? I shall do a web search forthwith.
Tramp: Playwell do indeed have plain white trousers - didnt see a pic though.
Ill shop around before i commit to anything, wouldnt want to be a mediocre Smurf (no comments about that please :) ).

I think the Bell's Sports centre in Perth would be ideal.
As Sheena said it's pretty accessible for everyone and just that little bit closer for the southern forumites.
My only question about it would be about the lighting. Remembering back to the Jivemasters bash, the lights were either on or off. No happy medium. And i felt it made for some quite dodgy dances as you couldn't really see anything.
But given the suggested dates, (late september is great for me as i wouldn't be able to make any other time in september), I guess the lighting 'problem' could be addressed??
James..
p.s. the BB is a great venue though eh.........

I have been talking to the venue, and I have provisionally booked 2 dates in September. I need to confirm with hotels and other venues before deciding between the 2.
Currently, it will either be Friday, Saturday and Sunday 17th, 18th and 19th September or the following week-end (24th, 25th and 26th). I am planning a Friday night party, workshops and events for the Saturday and Sunday, and of course the Big Forum Party on the Saturday night in the Huge Perth Arena...
So make sure you keep either of these dates free for a bit longer, and I'll confirm which ASAP :nice:

You must show an full understanding of grammar, spelling, use of the apostrophe and appropriate use of smileys, and that's just for starters.
You must demonstrate your ability to retort with wit (your above post is noted) and argue a point successfully with the Oracle!
Alternatively, you could just join the Intermediate class and get on with it!

Good point, and it is worth summarizing so far.
We are indeed hiring Wembley Stadium, or the nearest equivalent  The Bells Sports Arena in Perth. This could easily take 1,000 dancers and still have room! :waycool:
The current plan is to have a Friday night party (in a smaller hall) for the die-hards :D a series of Masterclasses on the Satuday, with a line-up of 'Top Teachers ®' of course
The Saturday Party will be the main night, and I agree with you that fancy dress isn't my thing, I'd rather dance, but we'll have some sort of (optionnal) badge / t-shirt etc...
The Sunday is still being discussed, but will be packed with great dancing!
Whatever you do, don't miss out on this one!
Chris, I shouldn't worry, most of the dancers who will go to the Week-end won't have even heard of the Forum so it's just an excuse for what I hope to be the largest party we've ever had in Scotland  so I hope you can make it.

The venue is booked and confirmed. There are many hotels in Perth, the cheapest will probably the travelodge (short drive to the venue or park 'n ride in operation on the Saturday) there is also a Holiday Inn Express in Perth plus many central nice hotels (including our new Weekly venue: The Salutation Hotel).
For the massages, you'll have to speak to Sheena (official masseuse to Cerocmetro) and of course to BTC Bill
Re. auditions for teachers / DJs... that might be a good idea... Maybe everyone interested should email me their credentials / and potential classes / subjects (or DJ-ing styles). Bearing in mind that there will be only so many slots, so I won't be able to fit all of you

Anyone who's thinking of booking into the Travelodge, Broxden for this event can I suggest that you do it soon. You can book on-line and although they take your credit card details you don't actually get charged until the time of your stay. You can also cancel up to the day of arrival so nothing lost if in the end you can't make it or decide to stay somewhere else :flower:

Which would be the best airport to fly into for the BFG? (I can fly really cheaply to Glasgow or Edinburgh from Belfast).

It will take place (mostly) at the Bells Sports Arena in Perth. The nearest airports are Edinburgh or Dundee.
Best to book hotel rooms as soon as possible as we will take over the city that week-end! As Sheena suggests, you can book the Travelodge ( www.travelodge.co.uk ) or the holiday inn express, plus many other hotels in Perth.
There will be a party on the Friday night, a series of masterclasses on the Saturday and Sunday, and of course the Big Gathering Party on the Saturday night! :D :waycool:

Thanks Franck. I checked earlier and I can get flights to Edinburgh for about £25-30 at the moment.

I've just booked the Travelodge and couldn't get a twin room, had to book a family room (could be that they don't do twins, don't know) but if it means all the twins have gone, then its prbably best to book asap to make sure you get in.

I booked a Travelodge room for my boss last week - the 'family room' - a double bed and a sofa bed - is their version of a twin room.
Maybe some folk could share rooms to keep down costs? I'd be willing to share with someone (some other female, I hasten to add! :what: )

Oh...........I have heard that some folk do tend to partake of a little drink or two - often in an identified hotel bedroom. I've heard the stories but have never been present at said 'parties'.
Doubt I could survive a day of dancing, a very late party and then more workshops   :na: .....but good luck :D

Tickets are not on sale as yet. The full programme is taking shape. We now have a Friday night party, Saturday will have a selection of masterclasses (1 hour) and the big forum gathering party. Sunday will have more targetted workshops (2 hours) and a farewell party on the sunday night... Tickets and packages will be available later in the Summer, and the programme should be finalized before the end of July.
In the meantime, travel arrangements (flights / hotel bookings) can be made now as it's always cheaper to book early.
It will be possible to book for the each party individually, and for workshops separately, there will of course be several packages on offer too.
The event will include the Forum Awards Ceremony and many opportunities for forumites to mingle!

They seem to have quite a few flights at 0.00 - so only taxes to pay. Just booked flights to Liverpool in Sep for 33 return and can get Edinburgh for 28 return.
Query - how far is Edinburgh to Perth and how long does it take? (So I know when to book flights). And if I came over on Thurs is there any dancing in Edinburgh on Thurs night?

I challenge Gadget to settle our differences* like a gentleman - with cold steel
Choose your weapon Gadget, foil, epee or sabre?
The date of this duel should be on the weekend of the BFG, the Saturday or the Sunday morning.
I think we should go for the first to score 15 points - loser buys the other a drink:flower:

I'm really a foilist first, epeeist second and sabreur last. I've got electric gear for the first two but not sabre. My gear is also very rusty as I've not fenced for 8 years - but I will still win I tell you, win, win, win, win, win,.....cough, splutter

Erm, I just thought - I don't have electric sabre kit either  How about keeping it simple - Epee and use test boxes for beeps. (and I haven't fenced for five/six years - and never got anywhere in competitions either, so I think you're probably 5:4 favourite)

Great idea - would prefer if say half-way between Scotland and South West though. Or maybe, as suggested we could use the Blackpool event to all meet up and be recognised - say maybe at the Friday night freestyle forumite names could be put on badges and you could pick 'your badge' up on the way in and people could then notice you and introduce themselves.

Be great if you (and some of the other Bristol forumites) would make it up here. It's just a short trek up the M5, M6, M74 and M90 :D
