When we first took over the club at Nantwich we had low numbers, lower club loyalty (competing against 7 othger clubs) and people seemd to drift away quite early.
To combat this (short of locking the doors till end time) we thought we'd try to exploit the alledged social aspect of Ceroc. To this end my venue manager also took on the title of 'Social Co-ordinator' and started organising a series of monthly events. So, once a month we'd descend on the locla Brannigans, visit another Ceroc club etc. Soon we did ten-pin bowling, country walks and pub crawls. This worked wonders for club morale and allowed people to get to know each other properly ... which at the end of the day is why a fair proprtion of dancers come to Ceroc.
Our social events are no longer formerly organised but informal groups within the club now carry on this activity with house parties and visits to the theatre.
Does this happen up North .. or should it happen? Would it be a good idea for each club to have an (un)official Social Savant to add to the huge potential for social activites ... or once you've escaped those doors do you not want to cross paths with your felow dancers till nect week? :what:
