View Full Version : If I had my life to live over

I read this years before I started modern jive. I think of it often when making choices. It's a bit cheesy but you can't help considering the message behind it. The message I got was 'go to more dances'.

If I Had My Life to Live Over

Interviews with the elderly and the terminally ill do not report that people have regret for the things they have done but rather people talk about the things they regret not having done:

I'd dare to make more mistakes next time.
I'd relax, I would limber up.
I would be sillier than I have been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously.
I would take more chances.
I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.
I would eat more ice cream and less beans.
I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones.
You see, I'm one of those people who live sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day.
Oh, I've had my moments and if I had it to do over again, I'd have more of them.
In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments.
One after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day.
I've been one of those people who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat, and a parachute.
It I had to do it again, I would travel lighter next time.
If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.
I would go to more dances.
I would ride more merry-go-rounds.
I would pick more daisies.

Ouch, you madam have just been declared morally bankrupt for that ‘joke’. You need to balance that deficit off! Hope you’ve paid gerbil.

I think by the time I find her she'll have been de-flowered - or at least lost most of her pollen:devil:

It was sort of like an upmarket, more mature version of 'Monkey'. Chinese tv series based on a collection of Chinese fables or stories. Can't quite remember, the memories are a bit vague, but it did have a lovely theme tune :nice:

If you are suggesting that 'Monkey' was in some way 'downmarket' then i shall have to ask you to step outside Sir.

Genius Television. Ive got an episode on DVD, hilarious :).

Aha! if you would care to observe my comments properly Smufey, you would notice my usage of the superlative...no, comparative (I think :what: ) ’more', indicating, my dear Smurfey, that Monkey is not immature, simply less mature than the 'Water Margin'. Now, if this is due to production styles, or something intrinsic to the stories themselves, I cannot say. Was I alone in converting a broom-handle into Monkey's staff when I was a lad?

Certainly not. And i have no chest hairs as an adult due to pulling the first signs of them out in a hope that i could create a legion of soldiers. Now of course I would hope to create an entire cabaret dance team :).

Wheres my cloud...whooooosh.

There you go Grant. If Jackie says your good, then don't argue. In any case, she'll be my dance "pimp" when I come up there, so sounds like you'll be on the list. Be afraid, be VERY afraid

A bit of synchronicity there though, as just a few hours ago I was musing over changing my signature, on that "Upstairs" thread. I know there was an innocent history behind that signature, and it was all Pammy's fault (oh! how many times have I said that!), but it's all lost in the mists of time (or some very old threads).

Greg

PS I think it might have been something to do with not getting a dance one night, how boring is the truth!

Forte (who has offered me a bed for the night when I come) is also going to be a "dance pimp" for me, so when one or the other of you is busy dancing yourselves, the other can do the "pimping". I think I'm really going to enjoy this!!!
