tell us about that first special dance, the one that got you hooked. Was it with a friend, a Taxi dancer, Teacher, a stranger? Can you remember the track that was playing, or just if it was it fast, slow or medium?

The song was 'Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square' - Some bloke from Cheshunt, I don't know his real name, but me and sis nicknamed him Frank Butcher.

LOL oh yeah forgot about him. He was a lovely dancer for Cheshunt. I won dance with a stranger with him on a freestyle night many years ago and that was it, hooked.

I distinctly remember it.

4th time at ceroc - and it got me hooked.

Venue - Casbah

Track - Proud Mary by Tina Turner, which has always been a favourite of mine pre ceroc.

Partner - I don't remember him at all. But he was obviously a good dancer.

I was hooked just from watching the busk. :what: Don't recall any special dance that hooked me at all. Although i've had a few special dances since I got hooked.
Had a few special* partners too! (*needs)

I don't think there was a specific dance that got me hooked. There was a specific evening (fifth time I went to Ceroc), and that was the evening when everything started to click - but no special dance. Those started happening after I was already addicted.

It was with the teachers girlfriend, can't remember the tracks..

All I remember is me apologising that I only knew 6 moves  (second class ever), and her telling me, she could dance with me all night, "because you dance 'with' me".

<tears welling up as I think of how nice she was to me>

From that point on, my social dancing has always been about connection, and secondly about moves.

I was hooked on the very first night too but I clearly remember the first time, I really experienced true 'musicality' and suddenly this whole dancing lark, took on a completely new meaning, something just clicked in me and I went... WOW, now I'm truly dancing..:waycool::drool:

I was at Hipsters and the track was 'The way you look tonight by Frank Sinatra, my partner was Nigel Anderson.. and when the line came '.. that laugh that wrinkles your nose' I remember he wiggled my nose. :na:

I believe we followed up with 'Regular Joe' and that was that. A whole new world had just opened up! :worthy::yeah::cheers::clap:

Funny thing is - I read this post before I read Lory's, and thought: 'That sounds like something Nigel would do...' Then I read Lory's post, and there it was...

Addiction occurred almost immediately for me.... Those special dances - mmmm I'm not telling. Let's just say that some of them are listed in the "message in a bottle" thread :awe:- The guys who are listed there know who they are..

It was on my first day actually. In the free style. I can't remember who he was. But he just made me feel like my effort wasn't put to waste. I was quite nervous (as anyone would be) about joining, but he didn't try to make me learn something new, he just stuck to the moves i'd just learnt in the begginers class, which i thought was quite good, because my first day and all, the moves are quite tricky to remember the first time round, and to get the hang of letting someone lead you, haha that was a mission in itself. But yes,,, his dance was the one that got me hooked, because he didnt mind dancing with a complete newbie.

But now, there is this man, that sealed my addiction haha. He goes every week, (well for the year i have been dancing) and in my oppinion he is the best male dancer at that venue. I always look forward to dancing with him, and he helps me learn new moves i don't know, and goes over the routine we'd just learnt in the intermediate class a couple of times through out the freestyle dance. The best dance i had with him was to the song, "Now i can dance" by Tina Arena. He just made me feel although i was drifting without effort lol & also that was the first dance i started to learn drips, drops and leans =].Very memorable.

spooky - exactly the same for me. I went the first time with a friend who wanted to try ceroc (I long would have liked to dance but thought I would never get it anyway), there I thought the taxi dancer was really really hot so I went back the next week (that was before I figured the 2 weeks rota thing obviously). Did that 4 times (over 2 months) and thought at the 5th one that this was my last time (I couldn't 'get' it and felt silly, and wasn't making much progress with the hot guy), when it kinda clicked that night and I realised I could actually have fun with someone and the music, you know, like actually dance.

In particular I remember that guy who I thought must be really really good cause he could do dips and drops, and he did a side to side lean to me and I felt on top on the world. Silly when I look back but at the time it felt: 'WOW, I can do that too'.

I remember very clearly too the first dance that 'hooked' me to blues and musicality, it was a few months later with a brilliant blues dancer who had travelled to Abz from down south... I remember in particular a light bulb moment when I 'dragged' my foot as he lead me into a sway at the same time as the music was 'dragging'.... it just felt so perfect at the time. Awe. :awe:

No special dance as such.......but was definitely hooked the first night!

I can remember a lovely guy telling me to 'just hang on, you'll be fine' .....and the next thing I knew I was dancing

I spent the rest of the night squealing, laughing, grinning and spinning.....

...........remember the dance scene in Airplane?? need I say more :what:

I don't really remember what hooked me to begin with, but I do remember special dances that have re-hooked me since then. You know, when you feel yourself dragging and wonder why you bothered coming to Ceroc that night, you're not having much fun and suddenly someone appears out of no where and there's that 'click' moment during the dance that makes you think 'yes!' this is why I dance.

Or is that just me?

Very tricky question.
Prolly my fourth'ish night when a couple of beginner moves were repeated for the first time and I kinda thought 'Oh O, I know these' :) That was the point where everything started to move from panic to fun :) Long ago, but I still remember detail from that night.

Actual special individual dances, far, far too many to mention. I am a simple bloke :) and the (relatively) simple things, smoothness, hitting the breaks, clicking of styles etc. do it for me everytime.

Most special set of dances was H/Palais 24Hr Marathon in 96, still my most enjoyable freestyle ever. The whole thing was brill, but in the middle towards the end, there was 5/6 hours of magic virtually all with complete strangers. Some others have come close, but there was something very special about that last national Ceroc Marathon. I can't remember a single face I danced with, but the dances themselves, a sequence of pure heaven :) My most treasured vid/dvd :)

Me too. Can't remember when I got hooked (I've always liked dancing!), but do remember when I got hooked on the blues room experience.... Southport June 2005....... My first ever weekender, and I'd found my new home...

Can't remember specific dancers or tracks, though.
