Hello all.... yep another mobile phone thread :D

It's upgrade time for me - I currently have a Nokia 6230i and want to stick with Nokia. Have been offered both the N73 and 6300 for free and chose the N73 but think I've made the wrong decision. Not a massive problem as I can send back within 14 days and get something different.

The majority of reviews on the net say that the 6300 is a very good phone but the N73 gets mixed reviews getting marked down for a slow OS and problems with phones. I'm not sure I really need the extra stuff the N73 offers - I don't really take pics with my phone as I tend to do that with my digital camera (radical I know!).

I just want something that's a natural progression from my 6230i and I think the 6300 is closer to that.

Any comments? Anyone gone from a 6230i to either?

TIA

I use the 73

It's ok (The Old 6600 was faster for sure but its an ok unit)

You must check the firmware version and upgrade if possible - the old message routine was pants. Its better now it also upgrades the web browser and u get a pretty good one.

Camera is good you should try it
Battery life not bad
Stick a big memory card in and use as an MP3
Voice commands are good and you do not need to record the tags the phone reads what you wrote as the contact name and tries to estimate the sound it should hear - pretty cool

There is the new N93 i think though out now - thats the one you want I reckon. built in GPS better web browswer again, wifi and Bluetooth. everything in one package. dribble. . . .

I plan to keep my 6230i forever. Best phone I ever owned.

I read a comment on the web recently that said that Nokia's N series were simply bad without exception so-far. While the functionality looks great, there were too many other problems...

I've decided that this is going to be my next phone (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=global&lc=en&ver=4001&template=pp1_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10804)... :)

As a humble employee of Nokia (though not the sales department), can I suggest the Nokia N95 (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/4328_Nokia_N95-HSDPA_WiFi_5MP_Camer.php). It's got everything you could ever wish for on a phone including a 5 Megapixel camera, MP3 player, 3G, HSDPA (next gen of 3G), near DVD quality video capture and a GPS receiver.

Unfortunately my manager won't let me have one, so I'll have to steal the wife's when she gets one through her contract...

Cheers Will, someone esle suggested an N95 but looking at the spec I think it would probably be overkill for me - my digital SLR is only 6.3 Megapixels! Not sure I would get one for free either.

btw the N73 didn't arrive yesterday so should be getting it today. Think I will use it for a week and then if I don't get on with it send it back and get a 6300.

Yeah, the N95 does looks good... Apparently it doesn't have the problems the earlier N-series phones had, though it does have quite poor battery life... Hmm...

How long did the battery last after the first charge?

I'll keep you updated with how it goes.

Day 1 of life with the Nokia N95 (am on T-Mobile Web & Walk). - It's a beautiful phone, and I'm really impressed with the screen quality and camera. I like the maps, but I haven't got the GPS working yet (not near enough to a window, I think!).

The inbuilt web browser isn't pretty. At some point I'll figure out how to install Opera Mini on it.

However - it's still a very buggy build. This morning, after setting up my voicemail link, the darling has been restarting itself over and over again. I did a quick t'interweb search, to discover that it's a very common "feature". However, it stops as soon as the update complete message is displayed, so just stay patient.

Also, it's a pain to play Snakes on. The joystick/mouse/controller thing isn't raised enough to make it easy, and the navigation buttons are right next to it, so I keep hitting them accidentally!

Battery still OK.

As a general comment regarding battery life (and this may seem obvious, but you'd be amazed how many people never consider this), the trick with battery life on any mobile phone is to turn off sevices that you don't use.

i.e. if you never connect via bluetooth, then turn off the bluetooth service and you'll save yourself considerable battery life.

Hehe. So you won't be here to see the answer, either. :D

Well... the battery life isn't the greatest. But, to be fair, I have been fiddling with it all day. :D I got about 8 hours. But that included lots of emailing & surfing, etc., and the restarting "feature" probably didn't help. :flower:

Well, I've decided to buy a Nokia N95. (Maybe you should be in sales Will – and pay Lou a bit of your commission. ;))

Any recommendations where I can get a good price for one SIM-free?

I have my 6300 now and first impressions are very good - keypad is infinitely better than the fiddly one on the N73 and has a very nice feel to it :)
