Sadly I don't get as much time to read the various cool forums on the net as I would like. This is an even bigger problem when I am on a very busy forum, like this one.

In such situations the search tool is invaluable for me to try and keep track of things which interest me. So, to my question.

The key word(s) used in a search can be highlighted when you are taken to your search results, so if your keyword is mentioned multiple times in a thread one can just scroll down the page and easily see it. However, on here it does not seem to be. Franck, could we please have keyword highlighting turned on? As it does not seem to be working for me at the moment.

Hope you are all well.

It sometimes works, it sometimes doesn't – I think its something else that vBSEO (the thing that does the "friendly" URLs) broke.

Hmm. I have not heard of vBSEO breaking this functionality before. Have you tried disabling this hack to see if it is?

It's not for me to disable it, and unfortunately re-writing URLs is a road that is hard to return from once you've gone down it.

Why do I think it is the SEO hack? The highlighting is done by adding a "?highlight=search+term" to the URL when the search results are presented. When you click the link, the "showthread" function takes that parameter and highlights the words in the search term, but unfortunately by the time the thread is shown the "?highlight" parameter has vanished.

Oh, it works when you click the bold thread titles, but not when you click the links to an individual post. The main difference between these links is that the second one requires more or different processing by the vBSEO system. I'm guessing that as it does so, it loses the "?highlight" information.

Make sense?

This bug should be easily fixable. I wonder if the other misfeatures of the system can be too...
