On a fashion note, I was happy to see an increase in hat-wearing.
Is this a new trend? Or just a lot of getting-more-follicly-challenged men ( ) trying to hide the fact?

Are hats good or bad for dancing - do they affect your dancing?

What about the Bandana Option? Cool? Naff beyond words?

Inquiring minds want to know...

AFAIC, if you're going to wear any kind of clothing that makes you stand out, you better be a great dancer or just not give a toss what people think.
If you're an average or poor dancer in a crowded room, no-one will really notice. Put a big hat on and everyone will notice how bad you are.

says Gav, dressed all in black, hiding in the shadows. :innocent:

Oh, and I've never seen anyone that looks good in a bandana.

My sig used to be ' Don't touch the hat!' I brought one of my hats out of retirement at the weekend. I got lots of compliments about it. I used to wear them all the time for dancing but stopped when someone told me I looked like a lesbian! I've come to realise that this was just one persons opinion and it seems that more people were of the opinion it looked good. (Could be cos it covers some of my face though  )
So my 'lesbian look' may be making the occasional come back.

IMO...Men wearing hats when dancing look bloody stupid.

On further investigation, I suspect you are right DJ about it being the folically challenged ones that wear them.

YOU'RE A SLAP HEAD....GET OVER IT.....!:D

Wrong. Roger (don't know his surname) looks great in a Bandana.

Maybe I've just never seen Roger
I know have a terrible image of Mr Long wearing a bandana.

*OK, and my face. And my body. And learnt to dance. Apart from that...

I believe he is called Roger Bandana-Man. The wonders of deed-poll.

I don't mind what people wear on the dancefloo though wouldn't ever wear a hat myself. Headwear does sometimes interfere with a lead though in my experience. I find Jamie easier to lead without his hat than when he thinks he's John Wayne for instance.

Hats are great, and always have been. This opinion has nothing at all to do with my rapidly-receeding hairline. Honest.

Are hats good or bad for dancing - do they affect your dancing?

They don't have an effect on your dancing, other than to provide a prop to play with if you feel like it. Oh - and to make you hotter. And to make some moves harder to do without risking premature removal of said receeding-hairline-hiding-device [hat] (depending on the type of hat)

What about the Bandana Option? Cool? Naff beyond words?

The latter.

Well bearing in mind that a lot of leads seem to take aim at the top of my head anyway, I hate to think what devestation would be caused if I increased my height (which isn’t that great btw) by adding a hat… unless of course I added some nice little spikes to it to train them to lift those arms when returning me!

I think that it goes well with a certain style. Not my style though so you'd never catch me in one:grin:

What could this mysterious style be...? I also haven't met Roger but I suspect even he doesn't suit his bandana.

*Sorry Roger!*

I do, embarrassingly, own a bandana - BUT I feel I can save myself by saying I bought it for some charity thing last year :nice: And, I have never worn it. And never will :waycool:

Since you're abusing your Nightly Moderator Powers™, I'm going to rush to take advantage, and do the Very Not Done Thing of Criticising The Poll

Does 'only bandanas' mean I only like bandanas, I only hate bandanas, or is it something altogether more abstract?

If I wanted to, for example, check every option saying positive things about hats, but specifically say that bandanas were created by the devil, well - I'm not sure it lets me do this.

There was a chubby bald guy dancing at Stafford last night in a black cowboy hat. He looked a lot like Van Morrison. He was a pretty good dancer, but somehow the hat just made him look a bit desperate for attention. Let your dancing do your talking fella - especially on a regular lesson night. Unlike Dai when she wore a similar hat to Utopia recently :worthy: Oh man, she looked the business in that! They say 'if you wanna get a head get a hat', but I really do think it depends on the dancer too.

OK I did wear a PVC witty hat at Bromsgrove a while back, but in the knowledge that I looked a complete tw@t, although oddly enough Jamie looked great in it! Is there no end to the lad's talents and abilities :D

Your orange hat was fab Fletch!

I like hats in general, and do wear them, but hadn't thought of wearing them dancing. I often arrive wearing one and take it off to dance! If I found a cute one that would stay on when I spun and wasn't too hot, I'd give it a try.

Men wearing hats  if it goes with the outfit and attitude, then fine.

I think it depends on the person.

Some people suit hats some people don't. It also depends on the hat!

I have a few hats all of similar style and I wear them fro dancing fairly often. It keeps my hair out my face and Look quite funky with the right outfit.

I think you also need a bit of confidence to Pull off wearing a hat while dancing! it's like most items of clothing especially if their a bit more daring or risky. They always look better if you feel comfortable and confident wearing them!

I like hats - but I never wear one on the dance floor. Dancing MJ I'd knock the thing off within seconds and in AT I'd only be able to wear one with shortish dance partners; the brim of a trilby brushes neatly across Julie's eyes. I don't think a fez would be quite the thing.

I've got a fab leather cowboy hat that I wear when it's likely to rain. It was pouring last night and the rain was running off the brim in torrents. I was feeling all smug - and then I made the mistake of looking down and produced a waterfall which soaked my trousers.

:yeah: Totally ridiculous. Anyway, it must be so hot. One loses 30% of ones heat through ones head.

I avoid asking men in hats. I assume that they think they are God's Gift.

That's a bit like saying that women who bleach their hair look bloody stupid. It's true for some, but certainly not true for all. :innocent:

Beware sweeping statements. Most are wrong (possibly even this one)

Hats can look good on some folks, but not if they wear them all the time – it then makes you wonder what they're hiding...

Bandanas rarely look good on guys – especially if they are only worn to hide baldness.

As for dancing with a hat – done it a few times, and it's surprisingly easy to adjust.

Dancing with a hat wearer – again, not so hard to adjust, just so long as the hat isn't stupidly big. The obvious problem is that a wee mistake leading to a slight bash of a hat usually has worse consequences that a slight bash to the head.

In general, whilst I have nothing against hats per se on men or women, I would say it is in general best to avoid them on the dance floor for all the reasons mentioned such as;

- they tend to fall off
- they can get in the way
- they can interfere with what your partner is trying to do or be an unwelcome distraction
- they make your hair even more sweaty (assuming you still have some)
- they may put some potential partners off so you get less dances

However, as with many things in life, there will always be exceptions.

Only worn a hat whilst dancing the once at the gangsters and molls theme christmas party, appartently suited it:waycool: but did find it got a bit hot after a wee while. Didn't get in the way of dancing at all.

Admittedly I don't know if I'd wear a hat to a normal dance night as I feel I might be looked upon as being a bit of a hot shot:blush:, besides I don't think hats would suit my normal attire at dancing, the pinstripe gangster suit was an exception:wink:

I wear a hat every now and then, only if it goes with the outfit... On Saturday night at Storm, I wore an "all black" outfit and the hat went well with it, so I stuck it on!

I do like dancing in a hat, and leading in a hat is no problem at all, however following in a hat is a different matter, it tends to get in my leaders way when following, so perhaps it doesn't work as well as it used to do! Oh well.
