Hello,

What options are available to build and host a Web site were the "structure" of the site is a template that one can "build” from modules.

For example the modules might contain:

A Payment receipt module that links to PayPal and Visa
A Content Management mechanism where the user can securely upload new content eg pictures and product descriptions without hacking HTML code. Fro example like PowerPoint templates where you drop your content into predefined areas of the template
Where the updating authorisation can support many sources of input but the contributors can only update “their” pages
Content validation where the user uploads can be syntax checked to avoid errors in input data
“Preview” of new pages prior to “Publishing” to public site
Ability to revert to older versions of pages
The look and feel can be set and “propagates” through all the Pages e.g. Navigation bars and “brand” to be consistently presented throughout the site
Easy-to-maintain links to other sites

I use a content management based system for my website. When I first started using it, it was called Mambo. It has now been updated to be called "Joomla".

I think its absolutely brilliant.

Hello,

What options are available to build and host a Web site were the "structure" of the site is a template that one can "build” from modules...with miniscule expertise I have used Net Objects Fusion to build a site. I am well out of date with the features, but it is designed along the principles that you are seeking. The great thing about it is that they distribute old versions free on cover disks and you get a very powerful bit of gear at minimal cost. There are also a lot of third party add-ons to do specialist apllications. I have also used the package as a "mind map" application for my own use.

To be accurate – Joomla! is an offshoot of Mambo, and both are being updated independently.

For a simple to manage content management system, I'd recommend Drupal (http://drupal.org/).
