I will be going (with TwK if I can twist his arm!). I am missing Blackpool this year due to my training commitments (for the London Marathon, I must be mad!), but won't be missing the ceroc champs as the big day will all be over by then! If I can still walk, I may even enter DWAS.

It is a shame that the Hammersmith Palais is to be demolished - even though it had its limitations as a venue for hosting an event like the champs, it is a shame that such an historic dance venue is to disappear. At Ashtead on Saturday I was talking to an older gentleman who was horrified when I told him the Palais was about to be knocked down and who was telling me how, before all the nasty nightclub carpet was put down, it would take a whole track to do a circuit of the former dancefloor (dancing ballroom, this must have been).

The Troxy looks fantastic, though, and with all that lovely tiered seating might be the perfect place to hold the champs.

I have a page (www.justgiving.com/clairecross) on the Just Giving website, and have been meaning to post up a proper thread with full info on what I'm doing (presuming it is OK with Franck :worthy: and his team to do so). It all needs updating, though, so I'll be doing that this weekend (hopefully with photos from the Watford Half Marathon which I have on order).

Meanwhile, back on topic... do you fancy entering Ceroc X with me?

I see there is a RocVets category, is that seniors?

I see there is a RocVets category, is that seniors?
Only if you class "senior" as 45 or 46* and over (http://www.cerocchamps.com/categories.htm#RocVets). :what:

(* The actual definition is confused...

First they say "This category is for couples over 45 years of age" (i.e. 46+), then "Both partners need to be 45 years of age or older" (i.e. 45+), then finally in the listed rules, "This event is for dancer's over 45 years of age only" (i.e. 46+.)

The grammatical mistake just adds to the general disappointment felt...)

Freudian Hips
21st-February-2007, 08:03 PM
Or .....does it means exactly what it says ....
once one has one's 45th birthday, one is more than 45 years old (eg 45 years 3 weeks and a couple of minutes)

Of course it is so very long before you're eligible .......

Does anyone know where I can find a list of the 'allowed moves' for the Ceroc X competition this year, please? :flower:

DD+
18th-April-2007, 03:48 PM
Your dancing in all the heats and finals must consist of some or all of the 16 basic Ceroc beginners moves ONLY in any combination and with no variations, adaptions, modifications, innovations or additions.
The permitted moves which can be danced in this category are:
The First Move *
The Armjive **
The Armjive Swizzle
The Manspin
The Shoulderslide
The Step Across
The Octopus
The Basket
The Side to Side Shoulders
The In and Out (Double Handed)
The Yoyo
The Comb
The Cerocspin
The Catapult
The Backpass
The Shoulder Drop
* the First move must end with a ladies under arm turn and return. No variations of the First Move are permitted other than the First move pushspin.
** The Armjive pushspin are permitted.
If you are not familiar with any of these moves you can either refer to the New Ceroc beginner's DVD or ask your local Ceroc teacher or Taxi dancers.
Competitors who dance even one move that is not permitted will be disqualified. There are no exceptions to this rule whether you do a move accidentally or not.
'Freezes' , or dancing at either half-time or double time is permitted providing the move still maintains the correct structure and content. For example, freezing in a Shoulder Drop or adding rocks to a Comb will be permitted.

I made a late decision to go to Cambridge Ceroc last night and thought I would attempt a little trial to see whether I would enjoy Ceroc X. I danced every dance in the freestyle section between beginner's and intermediate's (7 songs IIRC) in a Ceroc X style.

On the plus side, I actually found it easier than I thought not to throw in moves that were not beginner's moves. I had to concentrate a little more than is sometimes the case throughout the dance but I could resist muscle memory. I think I failed twice - once I ended up in accordion hands position post basket (which may or may not have failed me) and another that I don't recall detail of but remember thinking at the time it may have seen me disqualified.

On the negative side
* I found it incredibly d-u-l-l
* I found musical interpretation went to pot albeit the songs were not that open to much interpretation (then again, whose to say they will be in the competition either?)
* Lots of the followers were of the 'big step to left' on a return meaning I had to make the returns into travelling returns pretty much constantly - this was likely poor leading on my part since I tend only to do travelling returns in my usual dancing.

It raised a couple of questions that others entering this category may wish to clarify:
* are travelling returns permitted?
* are double man spins permitted?
* can you change hands at will (say, at the end of a return) or does it have to be as part of an accepted move structure e.g backpass or shoulder slide?

It may have been different and more fun with a more accomplished partner than those I had last night but I'm not sure. Think I'll stick to cheering on those people I know are entering for now

It hasn't sunk in yet that its this weekend! Really looking fwd to it! :D

Thank Goodness for "Ceroc X" !!! It gives Lyndsey and I a chance to do a catagory together one last time, and not worry too much about the lack of Practice, and executing technically hard moves badly.... We'll try not to do the Ceroc "X" moves too badly instead! :o (We have danced a grand total of 3 times together since Blackpool, Rusty!!!!!!)

Our goals aren't high for Ceroc "X" or DWAS. We just want have a good dance day out, and one last competition together  After the Troxy, Lyndsey wants to concentrate on her Ceroc Classes in the West Country, and maybe a wee bit more time with her young family.

I see there is a Stage, with tiered seats.... will we be competting on the stage, with the judges sitting at the front - ala "Grease - the search for Danny and Sandy" style???? corrr.... dancing on stage.... never done that before! :na:

I take it, the dancing in the evening will mainly be in the "other dance area" - a more traditional dance hall?

It looks a fab place.... even the stairs leading up indoors!
Bring it on! :D

Well thats blown it!
We are dancing in an Ex cinema/ Ex bingo hall?!!?!?!

Only kidding - the place looks fab and huge....... a real find I reckon! Those new photos look good as well. I can't wait now for us all to turn up and see the place in person. (There wasn't enough heads for Jaxx to hire a coash for us.... the west are all coming down by cars etc. )

See you all there! :worthy:

The venue does look rather nice - can't wait to try it out :waycool: It isn't so long since I was in that part of the world :nice:

Does anyone know when the heat listings and schedules will be posted - as of 5 minutes ago the Ceroc Champs website is still showing last year's information. I need to plan my journey to make sure I get there in time for my heat

New schedules are up.

Open category is popular this year.Advanced category isn't.

In fact, look at the heats for advanced: 9 couples in round 1, 10 couples in the semi-finals?!? Either I'm completely missing a couple of round 1 heats or I guess they really didn't get as many advanced entrants as they were expecting.

Only two couples for aerials.

Possibly the open is more popular because there wont be as many aerials allowed and that puts people off dancing in the open.

Also i have to dance in open because i am a teacher and i know of at least one other couple in the same situation.

Yes, I noticed that the couples increased rather than reduced in the Advanced - a typo I suppose. It will be interesting to see who takes the Advanced this year.

David & I are one of the two in the Airsteps.

David & I are one of the two in the Airsteps.Bryony and I are not. And although Katie is quite easy to lift, I think it would be hard to convince Mike Ellard that she is over 18...

Best of luck!

Just seen who is competing in the showcase. Awesome! Don't know about the standard of the Open this year but this category at least it looks like Ceroc has finally taken a step over the Blackpool Nationals. Seen James and Siobhan's routine at our Xmas freestyle ... really good. nice to see Mark and Jackie back on the scene again. Really looking forward to the reult of this one.

Well, the Airsteps was very well supported in the end. There were 6 couples, and I know of two others who would have entered, but I believe they had to restrict numbers in the end.

Thank you to the organisers who changed the running order of the competition to allow us to change costumes between the Open final and the Airsteps. It was greatly appreciated :)
