Just got home after a 3 hour journey from Daventry, punctuated by news of Saddam's execution, a chicken kebab, torrential rain and Steve Ambrosius' loud snoring.

This was my second visit to Daventry and, like the first (for Cruella's Polar Freezestyle), it was fantastic. The women were beautiful and beautifully attired and I had some of the best dances I can recall in a long time.

As to attire, Les Snell and I got the dress code catastrophically wrong. As we walked into a room of 700 normally dressed dancers, we realised that the fact of our wearing only underwear and a nipple ring the size of a dinner plate was causing some constirnation to the natives. We can only pray that there are no photographs.

Whilst I enjoyed the night I thought it was a ripoff at £15 for only 1 very overcrowded and overheated room, IIRC this time last year it was £10. The bar ran out of £1 bottles of water in the main room and had no change available for vending machine water. What happened to the jugs of free tap water throughout the evening? Somewhat essential in that heat!
I also arrived at 9:15 to face a 50 minute wait due to class / cabaret before I could do any dancing. Will someone PLEASE publicise what time this is scheduled or even better still schedule it for earlier in the evening?

Well - i can honestly say that i think it was a fab night - yes it was a little hot - but don't we all expect to get hot when dancing all night in a room full of people?

t was busy - but thats becuase everyone knows how brilliant the Dav freestyles are - there were people from all over who came. I danced with a woman from scotland - i can't believe people would travel that far!!:respect:

I had some of the best dances i have had in a long while - so thank you to everyone i danced with.

I'm just a little gutted that i can't go to the next dav freestyle :tears:

Well I really enjoyed it. Part of this enjoyment may have been because I hadnt done any dancing of any kind for over a week but it was a good night nevertheless.

A good point above though about the £15 entry fee. Although, once again, I thought it was a good night there really wasnt anything to justify this increase in price. I think it was Gus who started a thread a while back raising the issue of organisers charging extra. Maybe the venue raised their prices due to the time of year. If thats the case then fair enough. The only obvious 'extra' I could see was that some people had a glass of champagne upon arrival. I doubt this in itself added £5 per person though.

It was very hot but thats to be expected with so many people there. IMO it was over-subscribed. Very little room.

Also, I too was a bit put off by the cabaret/raffle draw/class/whatever else was on. Im all for these things but, as mentioned, if the times were publicised and adhered to I would not have to turn up only to stand there for 45 minutes waiting to dance.

All in all though a good night made special by some fab dancers.

I also got the shortest ever dance with Tiggerbabe  :tears:

What with this and the B&W ball, I don't really feel I've missed out on too much.

Actually the best bit was waking up and discovering that I'd stashed away a chocolate mini roll, a fairy cake, Santa gingerbread and two Ferrero Rocher in my bag... breakfast. :D

What with this and the B&W ball, I don't really feel I've missed out on too much.

Well even with all the negatives it was worth the 300 mile round trip for Mrs Par and I.
All the great dances with so many friends and the opportunity to meet and dance with so many new dancers from another region.
It was a really fantastic social occasion. Meeting forumites friends from Scotland, the north, the south, the east, the west and the midlands was worth loads.

I used the caberet and lesson time wisely catching up with as many forumites as possible for a chat and a drink.

All events will have a slight negative for some people but for me and Mrs Par its the grasping the nettle and getting to these bigger events and spending the time dressing up, socialising and dancing that make life such fun.

I personally could have done without the lesson and caberet, and feel that most dancers would prefer to be dancing than watching others dance. But most bigger events seem keen to interupt the dancing to put these on. I wish it was for less time.

As far as £15 cost... it sold out. . supply and demand and all that ....

I wanted to go......SO I paid the money :yeah:
and I had a great time:clap: :yeah: :yeah: .... only wish I'd taken more than 10 shirts.....

Happy New Year everyone.

:really: Of course I do :innocent:

I can distinctly remember arriving with two French maids, one of whom was rather cheeky, to say the least. :yum: Then I met up with three guys, dressed head to toe in fetish wear, one of them even had a nipple ring the size of an, erm, towel holder and one of them only had his pants on :what:

Hmm, come to think about it, maybe I was dreaming

I personally could have done without the lesson and caberet, Yes but I didn't mind too much, especially as we had extended freestyle time ;)

Disappointed that not many dressed to the theme of SINderella so felt rather bare compared to some! Had some very good dances and only a couple of dubious ones so all in all quite a good evening.

Well I remember the 2 french maids (who weren't that french!!) but with regards to the other 2 things...I don't remember seeing any of those...although...it did look like there was a woman there wearing boxer shorts! Not flattering at all and as far as I am concerned very sinful! She should go to hell for putting people through that! :what:

But as promised, I won't say anything about you being drunk, or slurring, or threatening infractions upon forumites...so you are safe

Thanks for the dance too babe

Just to finish off, I had a fantastic night, best one so far of all the Dav events. I think it may have seemed busier than usual because we didn't have the blues room, but at least we have both rooms for all of the Dav freestyles next year...woohoo

Thanks to all for the wicked dances xxx

..........I can distinctly remember arriving with two French maids, one of whom was rather cheeky, to say the least. :yum: .........

I've actually made it onto one of Alec's photos from the night (20061229_0138.jpg), standing behind the two French maids in question. I may look bemused, but my excuse is that I'd only just arrived and was getting adjusted to the place, looking for somewhere to leave a bag and change shoes....:innocent:

Though missing out on the French maids, I did enjoy some excellent dances and was pleased to see - apart from many Forumites - a number of really good dancers I hadn't met before.

It was definitely worth the trip from Exeter...I had dances with all my faves that I only ever see at weekenders:clap: , although on occasions I noticed the ladies 3 deep along the side waiting for the same person, so I changed direction!:what: There was a great atmosphere and I was able to meet lots of new people. I thought the cabaret was good, Emma and friends looked fab but the class afterwards was a little ambitious, but hey, they'll know next time.

Thanks for the great dances everyone, I had a brilliant time. :D

I had a fab time at Daventry - well worth getting up at 6.30am and driving down the M6 for :D
Great to see so many people going for it, theme-wise - eh, Claire
Only bad thing was getting just 25 seconds of a dance with Paul F and then freestyle stopping for the class, unfortunately I didn't manage to catch up with him again.
Fab to get the extension, so we were dancing until 2.30am and then back to the Travelodge and fast asleep by about 2.45 :innocent:
