View Full Version : M*A*S*H - The Series

Don't know if any of the forum members are old enough to remember this ( ) but the MASH series, after about 8 seasons, bowed out with one of the most awesome and moving episodes ever aired (IMHO)

I've spent the last 3 years or so trying to track down a copy ... but of course the VHS version was deleted some time back..... HOWEVER, I see from the US AMazon site that Fox are releasing the series on DVD, currently up to series 4.

The final episode (known as GFA - Goodbye Farewell Adieu) is guarunteed to have you in tears ... fantastic storyline, wonderfull acting and a superb comment on the futility of war etc. etc.

Anyone else out there have the faintest idea what I'm rambling on about or should I just get myself sectioned now??

Spot on Gus! It was a brilliant series and I used to hurry home to watch it - still enjoy watching the repeats any time they are shown. I'm pretty sure the title track made it into the pop charts at one point too.

And have to totally agree - the last episode was fab and did have me in tears. :tears:

Never mind the series, I was around during the Korean War - just!

But you're right, M*A*S*H was superb (and still is - it's regularly on satellite tv, I think it's the Paramount Channel but could be wrong. So I suppose eventually it will reach the last episode and can be taped.)

But the burning question is which Forum members should be Hawkeye, Trapper, Radar, Hot Lips etc?

One of the funniest TV series ever Gus......Alan Alda was brilliant in it.........and Yes Sheena, the theme tune was actually a No. 1 hit. The original movie with Donald Sutherland in it was pretty funny too.:waycool:

Well, if you really want to know what M*A*S*H character you most resemble, you can always do this quiz:

And if you're really honest and in touch with your feminine nature like me, you too could be the proud owner of this memento:

Trapper McIntyre got his nickname by "trapping" a woman in a train toilet and having his wicked way with her!

So I guess I know how DS answered some of the quiz questions!!!!!

And ladies - don't go near the loo at the next Ceroc party if you see DS lurking around (oh all right, do so if you really want to.)

Hi All,
I came out as B.J.Honeycutt, How Cool is that.
Many years ago I was stuck in a Hotel in a small town in Texas with raging flu for a week. There was a local cable channel that played Mash 24 hrs 7 days a week. I think I saw every episode.
Gus is right, the last episode was the best ever. If I see it on cable I'll tape it for him.

Was that the one where it ends with the colonel riding off on his horse?

uuugghhh ... not sure, sounds right-ish...

My memories are about the captured North Korean Orchestra and I think there was a scene where Alan Alda flys off in a chopper for the very last time .....can someone correct me if its also the episode where Alan Alda is 'cured' from a post-traumatic stress disorder, or is that an earlier episode?

Mmmmmmmmm...................not sure I want to be Klinger...even if I do have some of the same features !!!! And just cus I wear a dress and high heels - very occasionally - doesn't mean I'm mad and trying to get my release. Mind you might be worth trying....... then again I doubt if many of the students would even notice :what:

I really enjoyed MASH but towards the end soem of the episodes did tend towards the over- sentimental .

So who's volunteering to set 'our' Hot Lips up at the next Edinburgh party ???? Just need to wait till she goes for a shower then we all crowd in and wait for a reaction  :sorry - well it was funny in the film :what:

And who gets flown to have a 'rest' and to play golf in the sunshine. Who is Hawkeye ???

Don't know anyone at Ceroc who could be considered our Frank Burns. There might have been someone who was a real pain.....but they don't come anymore :innocent:

Really loved MASH, I used to sneek down stairs in my early teens to watch it. I think I fancied Alan Alda at the time:confused: All I can remember about the last show was me blubbing a lot !!

On the MASH quiz, I was BJ. Personally among US ensemble shows, I always preferred Taxi and Frasier (while the Niles/Daphne will they/won't they thing was going on - it's crap now). The MASH series never quite matched the film IMHO.

So I went surfing, and although I never found a "Which Taxi character are you?" (halfway between Alex and Latka I think), I did find a Cheers online quiz.

My result was, erm:

<img src="http://images.quizilla.com/P/periacta/1037256604_yQuizCarla.jpg" border="0" alt="carla"><br>Carla
<br><br><a href="http://quizilla.com/users/periacta/quizzes/Which%20Cheers%20Character%20are%20You%3F/"> <font size="-1">Which Cheers Character are You?</font></a><BR> <font size="-3">brought to you by <a href="http://quizilla.com">Quizilla</a></font>

Now I'm traumatised - I think Wendy must have been controlling my brain at the time.

Actually, I was expecting Cliff, or maybe Frasier.

I think there's a Frasier quiz too...

Oh please, be still my beating heart - whenever l used to get a taxi I would desperately hope it would be driven by Marilu Henner (Elaine). Never happened, though.

Hmmm - the MASH quiz tells me I'm Hawkeye Pierce and the Cheers quiz says I'm Sam. If only I really were that cool...

Apparently, I am "hot lips", but as I am too young to have series, someone is going to have to explain this to me!

John S

Major Margaret Houlihan was enjoying a passionate moment or two with Major Frank Burns, (well, with Frank it usually was only a moment or two) but unbeknown to either of them their grunts'n'groans were being transmitted by a hidden microphone to the whole of the M*A*S*H 4077 camp.

So when Margaret urged Frank to "Kiss my hot lips" she was forever afterwards known by everyone on camp as Hot Lips Houlihan.

OK Sal, it probably seems tame now, but way back then that was leading edge stuff!!!

was in polite company DD and there were (shhh) boys there!!

however my bad habit of buying small childrens' clothes and trying to remember to breath in a lot means the white bits are only eensy weensy.

nice to be back - I think I even missed you lot!!- it was a bit Big Brother meets Whaky Races and I discovered that a number of my friends have the map reading abilities and clutch control of limp salami, so there were one or two dodgy moments!!!nice and safe at my desk till the end of August now I guess.

I did the quiz and dleighted to say I came out as Hawkeye although I made sure I stayed away from a couple of obvious answers set up for Klinger. I'm sure Hawkeye must have worn a dress at some point :na:
